Yes you can do-it-yourself its sounds like the Back light led's in the back of the flat screen are not getting power. it could be 1 of 2 boards inside the chassis of the TV look online and put that model number in when you look.
My 32' LG LED TV has suddenly lost picture! The sound is all right but the Screen is pitch black. After switching it on the picture flashes for a second and then the screen goes completely black.

Hi Stephen,
This is a case of backlight failure. Some of the LEDs in the backlight array have failed and causing this trouble. To repair it the LCD panel has to be opened and I am sorry You can not do anything about it yourself, because it is a highly delicate job and needs a fair degree of expertise. You will have to handover the job to some good local TV Tech.

Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market.
