Was screen & lcd absolutely free of dust/any tiny particals/finger prints? If everything has failed i would completely reset the phone,see if that solves problem.

Try to hold the home button and the power button down together until you see a white apple.

Sounds like the CFL that lights up the screen has gone out. Take your phone to a repair shop and have the screen replaced. Should be fairly cheap for a 3GS

You may need to reset network settings. General, Reset, Reset Network settings, and just be patient it should activate.

Unless Android has an app that's comparable to itunes or photos on the iPhone, then you probably can't retrieve the photos and upload them back onto your phone.

It really depends on your ability to be patient with Straight Talk customer service. One night, I was on the phone with Straight Talk from 8:00 until 11:45 working to port a number. ATT had released the number, and for some reason Straight Talk couldn't capture it. It was frustrating. It wasn't the person from Straight Talk being difficult, it was the system. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Authorized USB driver available for any iPhone. You may have seen an app available for an iPhone that has been jail broken. I have no experience with this, but I would recommend that you not pursue this. I have seen some phones jail broken by inexperienced people, and they were a mess. Good luck!
