Hitachi 43FWX20B 43" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
It will work again temporarily if unplug
The model listed almost never has this problem---if using a box (cable or sat etc) IT can cause this problem and in that case unplug the box for a while and power it back---it will try to reboot. Also see if it does it or not when using a DVD etc connected to a rear input on the set--this will confirm the issue is related to tuner signal the set is using and may offer a way around the problem.
My Hitachi 43fwx20b has no sound
Sounds (pardon the pun) like a audio circuit problem which is very rare in this set.Check a few things--if using a cable box hook cable direct to set to rule the box out. Also if you have a DVD player do you get sound that way?Last and least likely in this case is in the menu for the set is there an option for the speakers to be turned off?Failing all these--set has an audio problem and although a very good set may be too old and too expensive to fix for this problem. It is POSSIBLE also that a surround sound unit could be purchased and with a cable box with audio outputs on back installed and BYPASS THIS PROBLEM--BOX WOULD PROVIDE AUDIO TO THE SURROUND SYSTEM AND IT WOULD HAVE ITS OWN SPEAKERS AND AUDIO CIRCUIT.

bad high voltage circuit. the audio is on a different power supply circuit so you will still get sound. refer to service tech
The color and focus is off
OK--for a Hitachi this set is a little unusual---it uses two of the STK-392-120 CONVERGENCE CHIPS.
One or both are bad(usually just one) You need to replace both and any discolored resistors around them--all the resistors have location numbers and if any are even slightly discolored you need to replace them and both chips---You can buy a pair of these chips on Ebay for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.
If you remove the back cover (unplug the set first!) look at the circuit board on the far right side----about 4 inches wide and about 12 inches deep---the chips are on the far right side on the large metal piece with fins.
If you look and find any of the resistors behind them (on the left side of the metal with fins) discolored---note the location number printed on top of the circuit board under them (RK46 etc) and I can tell you the exact value of that part--most of the resistors that fail are low value and can be tested just like a fuse--It is important to find any bad resistors as if you replace the chips and miss any open resistors the set will still have the same problem.
THIS IS A EASY SET TO DO THIS REPAIR ON IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLDER---I CAN GIVE YOU INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU NEED THEM.
THIS KIND OF REPAIR TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR--THEN YOU ADJUST THE SET WITH THE ORIGINAL REMOTE--set should be good to go without having this trouble for 5-8 years.
Let me know if this information helps you---If you are not able to do the repair let me know and I will give you advice
