Conversion-----the red lines are distorted so

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Tv power button comes on and blue lights flashes

This is the start relay trying to fire the display. I suspect that the caps on the board have fried themselves. It's not a DIY job as the replacement board needs to undergo tuning and realignment with special tool to create hatch pattern and to align the convergence or color engine.
Those that have tried thinking they can do what a PC fix can usually end up sepending more money and down time than if they has taken it to a professional.

MY POWER WENT OUT NOW THE TV WILL NOT COME ON

Unplug the tv for 1 minute, check the power source make sure another electronic such as a lamp or radio works in the outlet. Try to turn the tv back on and if there is no power, no lights at all then the power supply in the tv is the issue and it will need to be serviced.

Hi,It seems to be a problem with your lcos chips. This is how your technology works: http://www.howstuffworks.com/lcos.htm Basically what's in charge of creating your colors and image is those 3 chips. When they start to get faulty you will have vertical lines, color distortion, fuzzy pictures, colored hues.In order to fix your problem you will need to replace the light engine sometimes the price is to costly(almost as a brand new tv) I will recommend to get a tech to replace it since its a very fragile part.Have a bless one!

Check all of the large resistors on the convergence board. Usually at least one will be fried. Most likely, the 2.2 ohm if I remember correctly. Of course, make sure all the plugs are correct and plugged in.

What would cause my jvc tv have a green tint

It sounds like you can have optical engine issue. That's if green tint was show up very gradually, until one day it really caught your attention.Normally some parts of the screen more green than other. It should get progressively worse. To solve this issue optical engine have to be replaced. It is pretty expensive repair if your TV is out of the warranty.
In case if tint appeared suddenly in one moment - you can try to check component cable connection on the back of your TV if you are using one ( green, blue and red colored). Sometimes it's loose or after disconnection people reconnecting it in wrong way.
Experienced tech will determine if optical engine is bad by running test patterns in special service mode. If green tint present on Grey scale - optical engine is bad.
Sorry for bad news.
Regards.

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
