This is a known bug with the firmware/software on this model, even though you set the timezone to -5 EST anytime a change is made it resets the router to PST -8.
You can try updating the router to the latest firmware (please check the NetGear website for how to do this) which could potentially fix the issue.
I pressed the reset button
Your wireless router has reset back to default settings. You need to access the GUI of your router to retrieve your wireless info. Connect 1 PC to the router using an ethernet cable. Once you have internet access, open your browser and type in on the address bar 192.168.1.1 to access the GUI. If it doesn't work, try
http://www.routerlogin.net. Use "admin" for the username and "password" for the password. Once your logged in, go to the wireless settings and check for the details of your wireless connection.
My computer shows that the internet is connected,
Use a sharp object such as a pen or a paper clip to press and hold the restore factory settings
button, located on the rear panel of the router, for about 5 seconds, until the Power light begins

Number 6 is where the restore factory button can be located.

I have netgear wireless router. My grandchild
Sounds like someone renamed the router and gave it a password from within the Router settings. You will need to ask the people that were messing with it what the password is. Or you could do a factory reset on it to remove the password. Note: It is best to have a password for it in order to connect to it. Otherwise others will be able to connect to your network, like neighbors and such.
Now do get in to
Type ipconfig command in the command mode and find the default gateway.after that ytpe http:\\gateway .you will prompt username and password default username is admin and password is password itselt. Please try

The default router user name admin and the default password is password, both in lowercase letters. If you changed the password from the defaults, then just enter your new password
Ho do I find my SSID number?
The Netgear has a default SSID usually it is Netgear, you should change this SSID to something different to make your wireless router secure.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

How do i put a lock on my wireless router
Are you trying to lock it so no one can connect to your network, or lock it so that no one can access the setup? If you're trying to make it so no one can connect to your network, go to your router setup page(192.168.1.1). If you haven't changed the password for the setup page, it should be Username: admin Password: password. Look for Wireless Security, and add a WEP key. Once the router resets, your computer will ask for a key to connect to the network. Just type in what you made the key and you'll be connected.
If you want to lock it so nobody can change the settings, you'll need to do that from the settings page just like last time, except this time look for Administration. Usually it's one of the last tabs. In there you'll see the administrator password. Just change this and you'll have it locked.
My laptop runs Vista.
If you are connecting to your router wirelessly try to check the wireless settings on your computer. It might be that you were not able to provide the correct security code for your wireless network.
If you are connected through an ethernet cable, check the connection from the router going to your computer.
