Installing windows on SATA HDD
That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.
Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.
Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.
On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.
Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see: Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .

Cant find my SATA HDD
Yes - find the chipset for the motherboard - go on intel website for that chipset - download the utility for F6 use [sata driver or raid controller] put these files on floppy or USB key - boot motherboard and when it says press F6 to instal SCSI or other drivers press F6 - the software will ask where the files are - use the correct file and carry on running the windows installation. This time your sata hard drive will be recognised and you can complete loading windows.
Please rate my assistance - thank you.

Sata & ide darddrives
Hi, All dual drive capable boards read the SATA first, just make sure both SATA & IDE are enabled in the BIOS, load your O/S as normal this will load on the 1st SATA and the others will be auto detected as drives D and E, the IDDE will be E by default.
