No power, nothing at all
The best I can suggest you do is visit the Fisher website to see if you can get the user manual. Many have sites have free PDF's of them. If you can't find it send them an e-mail asking for the manual or where you can get one. That should tell how it operates and what the power cord should be. But I would be surprised if it works OK.
Does not turn on
If the unit is completely dead, open fuse, or power transformer with a built in thermal fuse instead of the regular. If there is partial power the problem most likely is a bad audio output ic.

I have the same problem and called Sanyo at the phone number in the manual. The parts supplier they forwarded me to said that the power cord was discontinued and there is no replacement :-(
My player displays 'no disc' when I put my discs
Besides trying a cleaning disc to see if the optical will get cleaned, and make sure the discs are also free of smudges, I am afraid you'll need to take it in for inspection, the usual problem with the disc players is that after a while the efficiency of the optical device begins to diminish, another common problem is the spindle motor, it begins to loose rpm and the driver circuit can not compensate for this loss untill it just does not spin enough to where the optical unit does not detect the disc.
Fisher Slim-1500 power cord
I would suggest that you go to your local electrical store like Dick Smith they have a good range of power cables...
But you really should take the Fisher Slim-1500 into the shop with you to make sure that the cable connects correctly...and is not modified in any way...

Hi There Briank36,
Most electronic devices now days rely on a small "battery" device inside to retain the memory settings that you set the system to.
This memory device can be a small battery or a capacitor, which is kept charged by the power supply during its on time.
When you turn the System off the memory device keeps the settings you like for the next time you turn the system on.
During this Off time the memory device is slowly discharged.
So as you say the system is now 5-6 years old so I suggest that the memory device needs to be replaced for a new one...
as it now cant kep the memory settings for as long as it used to...
I dont know the actual electronic configuration of your particular system but this would be the first item to replace..
Its only a few dollars in cost to have done.
cheers from YUBEUT.
