LG WM3987HW Front Load Washer / Dryer Questions & Answers
Washer leaks but onlyu during drying cycle
the main drama i have with these lg washer/dryers is the drying vent blocks up with lint which causes excess heat build up around the heater and it often results in a small hole melting through the front tub under the heater vent where it joins to the plastic tub, it also results in water leaking out the melted hole when it dries but not during the wash as the hole is at the top of the tub, parts are relatively cheap for what they are but its a massive job to replace the front tub.
LG WM3987HW Washer Spining very wild
I've just uploaded a service manual.
relevant info pasted below: --
Regulate a specific spin speed that generates excessive vibration and noise as follows:
1) Put an unbalance part (rubber) inside of the drum.
(this is a special weight that service people use. It clips into the drum. If you don't have it, throw in about 4 to 6lbs of damp laundry.)
2) Start the QC test mode (Refer to section 7-2).
7-2 says turn the washer off, then press 'spin speed' and 'soil level' at the exact same time. Then, while holding both buttons, press power to start "QC test mode"
3) Press Delay Wash button, then ' tst ' is displayed on lcd
4) Press the Spin Speed button repeatedly to select Extra High.
5) Press the Quick Cycle button, the spin speed is displayed.
6) Press the Start/Pause button.
7) Press the Beeper button repeatedly to set spin speed (600, 800, 1000, 1200 rpm) and check if there is vibration
and noise.
8) If there is no vibration and noise, increase the spin speed by pressing Beeper button.
9) If there is vibration and noise, rotate the Cycle selector knob clockwise to reduce the Spin Speed (reduce by 50
and 100 rpm). In case of 600 rpm, it can not reduce the spin speed.
10) If vibration and noise are reduced, press the Quick Cycle button to store (2 beep sounds).
* If you want to return to factory default spin speed setting, repeat above steps except step 9)
Few months old WM3987HW won't
Hi Rick,
I found your answer to another person's problem with the LG washer/dryer not turning on. We have the same problem. My husband found a piece of plastic near one set of the fuses that looks warped - like it got too hot. Is there any advice you can give? It's a piece next to the box by the main power cord with a metal coil.
I just had the LG
I also have this unit with the same problems. After lamenting on making a poor purchase decision, I found somewhat of a solution. Basically, water is not being expelled during the dry cycle. When I addressed this issue, clothes were MUCH more dry than before. Made a quick video demonstrating the fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EhzuzSk2Ok

I can't turn on SpinSense
I have an earlier version of your machine (WM3988HWA). What I've found is that you can't use the Spinsense feature if you've got the Dry cycle set to go after your wash. I have no idea why they designed it this way!
We run the wash first without setting it to dry, and have no problem turning Spinsense on. I usually hold it down for 3 second after hitting the start button, but you can also do it before you start the wash. When the wash is done, then we start a dry cycle.
This is the main flaw with our otherwise great machine. I posted about it at http://www.fixya.com/ThreadAsker.aspx?thid=1844295 a long time ago but never got any advice.
LG error code
its best to get an engineer to the problem as it could be anything at all or just an alignment problem eric
LG Fuzzy Logic 8.2 kg top louder WF-8071TTP
This dE error or fault code to indicate that the door is not latching properly. Check the lid or door operation to be sure it's not binding and that the door alignment is correct. Also, check the door/lid hinges to be sure they're not binding. Finally, make sure the door catch is in place and not broken. You may need to replace the door hook/catch or the door lock assembly.
