It has points and condenser.

Check that points make/break. Connect an ohm meter between engine metal and the small primary wire. Rotate flywheel slowly. The meter should go from zero (points closed) to a reading between 0.5 - 3 ohms (points open). If no problem found, disconnect condenser and check spark.

You can check magnet strength with a flat blade screwdriver. The magnet should hold a screwdriver along the blade without falling off.

Possibly an ignition module issue, on the advance settings. It could be sparking before the piston closes the fuel port from the carb

Try this. Remove the solenoid from the mower, this makes access to test it easier. Apply 12 volts to the two SMALL terminals on the solenoid. You should get a clear "Click" as you turn the power ON and again as you turn it OFF. With the power ON use a multimeter set to Ohms or Resistance and test across the two LARGE terminals. you should get no resistance. When you turn OFF the power it should change to a resistance reading.

Check for wear in sector gear (35) and shoulder bolt (58) or loose shoulder bolt. The sector plate should move laterally with little to none horizontally.

Check that washer (13) is in place between the clip and steering support (22). The diagram is somewhat ambiguous but I believe the washer is above the support but not sure. If you didn't have the shaft out then it's likely in the correct position (above or below).

There is also a bushing just below the steering wheel for upper steering support that may also contribute to the problem.

check the safety switches. there is one bad.

Does engine crank (starter engages) or no crank when you turn key to start?

If no crank, what is the battery voltage?

Engine crank requires the following;

Brake ON
PTO OFF
Ignition switch to start position.

The seat occupied switch energizes the operator presence relay. This relay allows power to the PTO clutch from the PTO switch only when energized (operator in seat).

A simple test

1.PTO switch OFF
2.Ignition switch to ON position.
3.Engine not runnjng
4.Operator in seat

Pull PTO switch. You should hear the the clutch engage with a notable pop. Then turn off PTO and it will make another pop or clunk when it disengages.

Similarly with PTO engaged, if you rise from the seat it should disengage.


Also a failed charging system may allow the engine to start and run but not provide enough current to properly engage the electric PTO clutch. With engine running check battery voltage is greater than 13VDC.

I have the same question. Aside from dropping the transaxle, drilling holes in the plate behind the transaxle may be the best approach. It had no resistance and there was evidence of oil loss. Failure of the shock causes abrupt lurching during stopping unless you're very cautious with the forward reverse peddles. I plan to tackle both jobs this weekend and I'm hoping that I can drill holes to get access to both oil fill plugs and the top of the shock.

An engine needs three things Fuel Compression A spark at the right time The battery is only needed to turn it over. New spark plugs properly gapped is good. A fuse only needs replacing if it has blown, and first, you must find out why it blew. If it 'rotated', then it did 'turn over', you mean it didn't start. Did it spark though? Remove the plugs and hold them connected against a solid earthed part of the engine. Turn the engine over, do you see a nice fat blue spark? I think you probably need professional service. ..

Check the leftside manual transport bypass lever has not somehow engaged. Compare it to the right side.The two transaxles are driven by the same belt so extremely unlikely it's a belt problem.Look for any signs of fluid leaking from the left transaxle shaft seal. If the seal has been leaking then it may be low on fluid. The transaxles are considered maintenance free so there are no instructions from Husqvarna for adding fluid but it can be done.
