Screen wont come on
is lack of RASTER , test the complete POWER supply: fuse, c. breaker, filter, transformer, IC regulator voltage, horizontal transistor, HV rectifier, + FLYBACK .God bless you
The tv will not stay
If it goes out after a few minutes, it could be bad solder connections on the convergence IC's or elsewhere. If it shuts down right away, it could be a short in one of the picture tubes which would not be worth replacing. It could also be a shorted high voltage transformer which would also make it beyond economical repair. Unless the set had an exceptionally good picture, I would be inclined to replace it. If you have noticed any color "smearing" across parts of the picture -- trash it.
Double vision pops in and out
projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

You have bad grounds on the convergence ICs. Smacking your TV with a shoe will only work so long. You will definitely need to resolder the signal board convergence IC pins, and save your shoe for other important things. You will need help with this, as this TV is too complicated to repair for the novice. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.
Convergence is way off, Rt & Lf side of screen
Convergence IC's inside of your TV have to be replaced. Also some low value resistors around IC's could be burned as well.
Then convergence have to be realigned. This job require above-average soldering skills and cost around $300 if you hire TV repairman to do that.

Mitshubishi WS-73907 won't stay on
I suspect you may have a short in the horizontal deflection circuits or High Voltage transformer. If the set had a "great" picture, it may be worth fixing providing you aren't planning to upgrade to a HDTV anytime soon, otherwise I would use this excuse to start looking for a new set. Worst case I can envision with this set would be one of the picture tubes having a Short, keeping the set from turning on. That would make it unreparable.
Three colors are "bowing"...
I would take it to a TV repair place, they will charge around $50 and let you know what the problem is with it. this is your cheapest way out, it you want to get it. If you chose to take it please give me a fixya rateing. Thanks, Farren
