There is something wrong with the cartrige head. First try to take out the cartrige and in the head there is contact points. You can try and clean it with a dry cloth.

It can be one of three problems. The cartridges are blocked and needs cleaning, which can be done by leaving it in warm water for 15 minutes or so, drying them and then re-inserting them. If this does not work, the flat cable that connects the heads to the main board is damaged, which requires replacement. or it is simply faulty cartriges

Make sure the power is correctly plugged in. If all are okay outside the unit, the problem lies inside the unit. If a line of black Squares blinks on the display, it is a capacitor that is blown. If nothing happens on the display, the fuse is blown. No user serviceable parts on the power supply unit. Professional technitian service required.

had the same problem. you must replace the mainboard.

there is a button on the front pannel. change ink. press it. open the front pannel. take cartride out and put new one in. close front panel. printer will ask if it is a new or old cartridge. 1 for new 2 for old.

see if your fax is on fax mode. the button is next to the display.

if you press the right errow under setpu the ringer will go louder.

make sure it is a s40 and not a s45 cartridge.

take the cartridge out make sure you removed the label on the bottem of the cartridge.put the cartrige in warm water for 10 min. clean it and test it.replace cartridge.

If you open up the feeder door (Where your originals feed into) you will see a slit of glass going from side to side by the feed rollers. (you might need a flashlight to see it better)
On the slit glass there is probably some white out or something on the glass. All you have to do is clean the glass and this should take care of your problem.
To help you zero in on where the marks might be located, make a copy of a white piece of paper through the fax machine.
And then line up the copy that comes out with your black marks to the feeder.
This should get you in the general location.
