Fully charged batter and it just clicks
Take the battery somewhere to have it checked. Just because it is charged does not mean that it is good enough to start the generator. If the battery is good, then the starter selenoid might be bad.

Kill switch
There should be a Kill Switch but they do fail, and are no necessarily replaced. The wire you speak of is most likely the wire that shorts the ignition to ground causing the engine to stop. Any momentary push button switch would be fine. Be sure your "wire" kills the engine when shorted to ground. If that is the case, then connect that wire to one fo the terminals on youir switch and connect the other to the frame of the engine, preferably under a screw or bolt. Mount your switch and you should be off to the races. As it were.

Runs but will not generate power
Make sure the generator breaker switch is flipped on to allow voltage and amps to flow to the recepticals. Otherwise, if the switch is on, then you have overloaded the generator and blown a capacitor, resistor or similar item and the gen needs to be serviced.
