Question edited for a bit of clarity. Full make and model. Question moved from Cars and Trucks category. This appears to be the bulb for it. https://www.singeronline.com/nsearch.html?#search/q=Singer%204220%20bulb&sortby=rel&page=1&size=15&storeid=yhst-128328650112652/1 This is your manual. I needed to replace th bobbin case because was broken. Unfortunately, by mistake, I removed the positioning plate. Now, I just cannot put back the parts ( bobbin plate and positioning plate). Is there

The parts list (or chart) may be useful to you, and generally, they are free. The Singer Sewing Machine site does have parts charts for sewing machines as a free download. Go to the Singer Sewing Machine site and type in Parts Chart in the Search box. If you don't find it there, send an email to Singer Customer Support. The reason it might be useful is in addition to a list of parts and their order numers, there are diagrams as to what they are and how they fit together.

How do I know if I need a new bobbin case

Well, they're inexpensive to purchase anyway, but you generally don't have to replace them unless they are scored, and that doesn't happen unless you have put a needle in improperly several times, and it marked the case. Before replacing it, I would test the bobbin by rolling it down a flat surface to see if it wobbles; if it is, it's warped. I would also try another bobbin because it's easy to get an incorrectly wound bobbin, which won't allow the thread to unwind smoothly. Take the bobbin and case out of the machine as a unit, making sure that the thread is where it usually is while sewing, and pull the thread. There should be SOME resistance, but not a lot. It could also actually be your TOP tension that is too tight. In your manual, there are instructions and drawings to show you what your stitches should look like, and how to take corrective action if they are not. While you CAN adjust the bobbin tension, if it doesn't need it you can really get yourself into trouble, and they generally don't--thread resistance is generally caused by other factors.

Bottom thread: you can pull right out of material

Very vague question... well it's not even a question. If the bobbin thread is straight with little loops... your top tension is too loose. Tighten it.

What bobbin should be used for a singer

Normally it is a #15 or 15J. Your manual should tell you or you can go online at singerco.com and look under support for a free download of you manual. I checked the Singer site and you may have to have a "surefit" bobbin that is exclusive to Singer. You can call them at 1-800-4singer
