I have never had seen this problem ... however assuming the tray contacts are not shorted in any way ... its likely to be a problem with contacts in rear of the tray cavity. I would check the following; 1. Remove drip tray and shine a torch into the tray cavity to inspect the receiving contacts that accept the tray contacts. Perhaps theses contacts are shorted in some way. 2. The next step is to open up machine, but you need to be suitably experienced with electrical appliances to perform this step. Disconnect the power at the outlet (or if this is not accessible than at the fuse box). Remove the machine from the cavity and remove the rear panels (making note of which screws go where). Locate the wires that terminate on the contacts on the rear side of tray cavity. Disconnect the wires from these contacts. Replace panels and then reapply power to unit. If this solves your problem .. then there must be a short on the contacts in rear of tray cavity. If this does not solve the problem then trace this wire back to control board and remove wire at the control board. Again replace panels. If this solves problem then there must be a fault in the wire which can be fixed/replaced.. If this does not solve the problem then it would appear to be a problem with control board and best to call Miele. Can you please clarify the problem. Are you saying that coffee no longer comes out the spouts ?

I have found that most of the time that I see this fault there is a broken wire at the brass contact that the lid of the milk container contacts with. This contact is on the door of the machine on the edge of the oval hole that the milk flask is inserted into. There is a torx 10 screw holding the cover on - remove that screw and you can lift that cover off. You will see a single wire going to the contact. If this wire is in fact making a good connection, then the issue is in the top handle of the milk flask - possibly water inside. I hope that helps.

Nancy, this setting is controlled by the settings menu. You reach that by right arrowing through the different beverages/menu selections until you select "Settings".

• In settings, scroll to "program the amount"
• place a cup under the spout
• select the beverage you want to program, espresso in this case
• select start
• select okay when the amount of water has been used
• the machine will remember this setting for future espressos
• the same menu structure allows you to control the amount of coffee ground, as well as the amounts for other beverages

Open the door and you will see four bins top right is the bean container - bottom right is the water container - bottom left is the waste container - top left is and empty storage bin - remove the top left bin and you will see a flap door - lift the door up and insert your ground coffee.
