Vivitar DVR 840XHD Digital Video Recorder Questions & Answers
Want to download mg\y photos & videos to my laptop
The best way to download photos and videos from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy photos and videos from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo/video cataloging program, such as
Picasa.

Possible Solution for this problem. The battery might not be making contact with the terminals in the camera case. Open the battery door of the camera. There is a small spring "tab" on the other side of the battery door. Bend this "UP" a little, close the door and try it again. You may have to bend it up some more it it didn't work. By bending this tab up, you are forcing the battery UP to make better contact with the terminals.

First make sure that the SD card's lock switch is not in the lock position on the card. This camera allows for both SD and SDHC so as long as the card you are using isn't over 32GB then it hsould work. There is a version of SD called SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity) and these are over 32GB and will not work in your camera. Lastly you may have to format the card in the camera before it will be recognized; this is usually requested by the camera upon inserting the memory card. So the main step would be to make sure the "Lock" mechanism on the SD memory card itself is not engaged.

Unfortunately, there is a circular focusing ring in the lens assembly that can get jammed by dust, lint, sand, etc. You can try to blow it out and free it up, however, this requires partial disassembly of the unit. I would take it in to a camera repair shop, and see what they would charge to just check it out, then go from there.
You can gently try to bump the camcorder, in hopes of freeing up the lens, but other than that, it will have to be taken apart.
There are videos on YouTube that show how to do a lot of things, if you go look around there. You may not find your exact model, but you will find a similar item.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.
