I'm not familiar with this type op multifunctional, but from what I know is that the software might suspect a certain size of document. When the document you need to scan is smaller or somehow in another size, it is not recognizing the document. See if there is an option in the software for custom document sizes.

The best thiNg to do is to give to an engineer to open it up and clean it up for you fast before it will affect the panel/mechanisim

Check the rubber rollers on the paper feed. They get paper dust on them and lose the grip. Wipe them clean with some isopropol alcohol on a clean cloth.

They are not in the middle as shown in the manual. I still can't find them. God! this printer is only that big and I spent three days looking at every possible corners and gaps and still can't see where the ink cartridges are. Will not buy this Canon printer again.

Verify the power supply unit fuses.

The problem is very much likely to be your computer.

Enter your services menu in your computer and make sure that your hardware detection is enabled, the service name is "plug and play." Then from there click start to start that service and select that it's startup type is automatic.
Then scroll down to the print spooler service, make the startup type automatic and then start that.

Now turn off the printer, unplug the USB from it, plug it back in and turn on the printer.
