KitchenAid Pasta Roller / Cutter Set - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Cutter does not cut all the way through the dough
Luckily, I have two manual noodle makers, the same brand..with opposite working rollers ...so, using the two units at once, is going to work for me...heck man, I just bought the darn thing last month from ebay...I thought that maybe just maybe I had a piece of floured crap, causing the cog or gear to stick..Sandy
KitchenAid KPRA Brass input shaft sheared. Need a replacement
The "brass input shaft" is designed to break in the
event of too much torque being applied; it acts as a shear pin. For safety considerations, I would be careful what I used to replace the shear bolt/shaft. Failure of the shear bolt is
necessary to prevent more serious damage to either: 1) the mixer, 2) the
pasta attachment, and perhaps most importantly 3) the object stuck in
the pasta attachment (think of ingested clothing, hair, fingers, etc).
Unfortunately, KitchenAid refuses to supply replacement shear bolts (and
I couldn't get an answer as to why); however, they seem pretty good
about replacing the attachment under warranty. But logic dictates that a
part, such as a shear pin, that is designed to fail, will have a high
probability of breaking long after the warranty period has expired. To
that end, I have machined a bunch of spare shear bolts to the same
physical dimensions as the original part out of 5/16" brass hex stock. I
would consider making some available to others in need at a nominal
fee.
We need to find a
Here's my solution. I purchased an 8mm zinc-plated brass hex standoff from
http://www.mcmaster.com (part number 92080A053). It is 25mm in length and has internal threads for an M4 screw. It fit perfectly into the nylon gear plug without modification. I had a colleague from work bore out a hole with his drill press (removing the internal threads) and turn down the exterior with a lathe to create a weak spot (mechanical fuse). See the attached image for the finished product. It doesn't match the original dimensions exactly but it is close and will suffice. You don't necessarily have to do the extra machining work if you don't have access to that equipment, but as jeffrey_w325 states in his post, this part is supposed to be the weak link and fail first. If you don't machine the part down, just be extra careful when using the pasta attachment. Good luck!
My Marcato linguine cutter attachment is not
These are notorious for the issue! If you can find a machine shop or maybe someone that repairs machines, such as a sewing machine, they may be able to adjust it. It just cannot be done by a regular unskilled person. Good Luck!
Can't adjust roller settings
You probably have a slipped gear. It happens quite often on that machine. A machinist or, believe it or not, a mechanic can probably fix it and save you replacing it.
Kitchenaid pasta roller
The others had good solutions but I thought I would add mine as well.I put vegetable oil on both outer edges of a folded paper towel that fits the entire width
in the narrower roller settings of the machine. I run it through 3-4
times as if it were a piece of dough. It takes away the squeaking.....at
least until it is needed again.
I made some yummy waffles in my kitchen waffle
Hi,
Unfortunately you have ruined a perfectly good waffle maker...
The coating in there is a teflon coating that needs to be applied properly for it to work...if you try to use it in the condition it is in then the waffle will stick to the plate...
Best thing to do is to trash the old one and then buy a new one...
