My portable dishwasher does not

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
This is usually caused by the plastic float in the bottom of the unit being stuck OR a failed float micro-switch.

The parts you need to look at are items 302, 305, 306, 307, 308 and 490 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5224401&diagram_id=26124425#d26124425

Check the stem from the BOTTOM. It should slide up and down freely. Listen for the microswitch to CLICK as you lift it up and down. No click = bad switch. If it is sticky you will have to remove the float and clean the whole assembly.

Concentrate your efforts in this area and I am sure you will resolve the issue.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

My dishes are coming out with a white film on

Cloudy or gritty dishes are due to hard water deposits. Starting in summer 2010, many states have passed laws that prohibit phosphates in dishwasher detergent. The phosphates were good at removing hard water deposits. After the law changed, detergents don't work very well anymore. So I created a product that solves the problem. It's all-natural, contains no phosphate, and it works great! It's a powder. You add 1-2 tablespoons to each wash cycle and you use a lot less of your normal detergent. So your cost per wash does not increase. See my website at www.CitriClean.net

My GE Nautilus portable dishwasher will take water

Try manually adding water to the dishwasher. If it works then the water valve is just clogged. Sometimes it gets full of gunk and the machine will take in water but not enough to run properly. It is in the upside down cup shaped thing on the bottom left front. The other possibility is the Cam/Timer. It is in the door right behind the dial. This is the part that triggers all the different actions.
If when you add water it doesn't work then the valve or the solenoid on the pump assembly is likely done.

My dishwasher is not running

The soap dispenser is openned mechanically by the movement of the knob by the timer. So even when it is unplugged the soap dispenser will open if you turn the knob. Try a different plug. Otherwise check the cord. Next you would check the power supply inside.

My dishes come out dirty

If you have had your dishwasher awhile the water valve may need to be cleaned. You can check by openning it mid cycle to see if it is full of water running on very little water at all. The round white upside down cup shaped thing at the front left of the machine has the valve in it. It is easy to take off and clean it out.
Another common issue with these dishwashers is the top spray arm gets clogged. Since it uses a small hole at the end to provide the jet of water that makes it turn it only takes a stray crumb to clog it. You may also find that the screen at the back inside is clogged. That is I believe only 4 screws to pull out.

My ge nautilus kept stopping during wash and now

This is quite likely the timer or the cam. It can be replaced. Since they use a mechanical timer it can simply be off track. If you aren't afraid of disassembly I would take the timer panel apart and have a look. You may be able to fix it quite easily. Otherwise the timer is about $50. The cam is only $15.

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. Have ge nautilus water will not drain please help

Possible that the drain valve is faulty if there is voltage on the valve/pump but does not work.
If there is no voltage then the program controller can be defective, so unless the two factors are checked the suspect canot be confirmed.

Water leaks from the jet

Check inlet water pressure! If too high this could happen. Regulate the pressure with a hand operated valve. Available in plumbing material shops.

White film on glasses

If your dishes or glassware appear with a white film or a white powdery residue or spotted following a complete wash cycle, adjusting the amount or type of detergent you?re using and adjusting your hot water heater?s water temperature may solve the problem. But before you do either of these, put a rinse additive (such as Jet-Dry) in the rinse dispenser to improve the sheeting action of the water.

Next, you?ll have to determine whether the film is removable or permanently etched. To do this, soak a glass in undiluted white vinegar for about 15 minutes. Or, wash the glass with warm water and concentrated dishwasher detergent or a high-phosphate detergent (such as Glass Magic).

If the film comes off, it is probably caused by hard water minerals, improper amounts of detergent, or unsuitable water temperature.

Permanent etching is often caused by a combination of soft water and excessive heat or detergent. If glassware is permanently etched, there isn?t anything you can do to make it clear again. But you can avoid future etching by taking these steps:

1) Be sure hot water entering the dishwasher is no hotter than 140 degrees F. Don?t use extra-hot settings such as ?Power Scrub,? and use the ?Energy Saver? dry cycle.

2) Adjust the detergent amount.

3) Don?t pre-rinse your dishes before loading them in the dishwasher. Food particles on the dishes actually help the detergent and drying agents clean better.

A common cause of poor washing results is improper loading?dishes that block or impede the spray arm(s) or prevent the soap dispenser from opening. On the other hand, if your dishwasher has chronic problems with good washing, the problem may not be your dishwasher. A good first step is vary the amount of dishwasher detergent you're using and try switching brands.

Other possibilities: Your home?s water pressure may be too low, your water may be too hard, or the water temperature may not be hot enough.

In order for your dishwasher to fill to the appropriate level, water pressure should be from 20?120 pounds per square inch. If you suspect that your water pressure may be low, turn off all faucets or other users of water (such as washing machines and sprinklers) and then put a half-gallon jug under the kitchen faucet. Turn on the hot water full-blast. If the jug doesn?t fill within 14 seconds, your water pressure may be too low for proper dishwasher operation. Call your city water utility to discuss your options, or avoid drawing water elsewhere in the house or yard during dishwasher cycles.

The right amount of detergent to use depends on how large your load of dishes is and how hard your water is. Hardness is measured in grains of minerals?the more grains per gallon you have, the more detergent you?ll need. If your water has 12 grains or more of hardness, fill both dishwasher soap cups completely with detergent. If that doesn?t work, consider installing a water softener. (For more information, see the article Water Softener Systems.

To check water temperature, hold a meat thermometer under the hot water faucet for two minutes; if it doesn?t register a minimum of 140 degrees F., turn up the temperature dial on your hot water heater. (However, if you have a newer dishwasher that heats the water internally, it isn?t necessary to turn up your hot water heater.)

If your dishwasher has worked fine in the past but suddenly your dishes aren?t clean after the dishwasher completes all cycles, listen to the spray arm(s) spinning inside during the wash cycle. If spinning poorly, wait for the machine to cool down, remove the spray arm(s) by unscrewing the hubcap(s), lifting the arm(s) off, and then cleaning out the spray holes in the spray arm(s) with a stiff piece of wire.

Please rate the solution if you feel I've helped you
