Hi folks! My housemate's over-the-range microwave

Id check the high voltage connectors on the magnitron. Look for any black scorching... Pull them off, clean them and plug them back in. There are only two wires, so ~ it wont take all day to do it.
Obviously on a discharged microwave and unplugged (stating the obvious)....

GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Exhaust Fan Whines & Doesn't Do a Good Job

The vent fan assembly's blade assembly may be freewheeling on the motor shaft (which can be fixed with a couple of drops of super glue or epoxy) or there may be a foreign object or critter in the fan blades. You will have to remove the oven from the wall to inspect and remove and inspect the vent motor. You can download the installation instructions here. I have a GE Profile

I regularly see (and repair) this light and / or fan failure on model JVM1660SB005 and most any model of over the range microwave. The problem is on the controller assembly, which I regularly repair very affordably. At my Web site, you can get details, plus I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller. The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too. For more free DIY and other help & advice, feel free to contact me via my site. GE Spacemaker microwave, runs only 2 seconds, then stops

The problem you describe on your JVM1650SH02 is a failing "noisy" magnetron which is emitting electrical interference that disrupts your microprocessor. At my Web site, I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range grille and control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. You will find a technical sheet hidden behind the grille or behind the controls. It's handy for locating parts and troubleshooting. You can find an exploded view and parts list by entering your full model number from the tag here, and you can also order parts there. On your model, you may need to remove the oven from the wall. The installation instructions here will be helpful. Pro tip: In many GE models, dropping the floor plate that holds the high voltage transformer is necessary to get the magnetron in and out. Why do the light bulbs stay lit after I have replaced the bulbs?

If the bulbs were replaced with power on the oven, the the device supplying the power to the bulbs (possibly a triac) may have been shorted out. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_29ad5d1dd86564b0

Ran the microwave empty...it shut down. Is there a reset button

You could have burned something out on unit. Check fuse or contact GE. Look in manual for trouble shooting tips.

POSSESSED MICROWAVE!

wow.......... an exorcism may be in order.......Sadly your microwave circuitry is malfunctioning which is a costly repair. I would seriously consider trashing that possessed unit and purchasing a new one. the new ones are greener too, use quite a bit less electricity

My microwave went dead while heating up something what could it be

It probably blew the main fuse. Since it blew when it was running, it might indicate that the fuse holder isn't holding the fuse tightly enough; causing it to heat and internally melt.

You also could have some sort of failure, or failing component, in the high voltage circuit. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_29ad5d1dd86564b0

How much is a magnetron for a micro wave?

The cost would depend on the type.

Some are as little as about $20. Ones for commercial units cost significantly more. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_29ad5d1dd86564b0

The unit just stopped working is there a reset?\

There is a fuse which can be located near where the cord enters the cabinet, or behind the control panel.

If you replace it, and it continues to blow, you could have an intermittent door switch, or a weak fuse holder.

If it is a door switch problem, both the bad switch and the monitor/short switch should be replaced. On inverter ovens, the power relay should be replaced. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/david_29ad5d1dd86564b0

GE microwv-doesn't heat, strong electrical smell, all else ok

The most common problem would be your magnetron. Check your purchase date, magnetron's usually have a five year warranty. Not a part I recomend trying to fix yourself (high voltage ).

How to replace the fuse in a ge jvm1490bh oven ?

If you remove the ventilation grate at the top of the oven, you should see some screws holding on the control panel. If you remove the control panel, you will have access to some components. If you're lucky, you might be able to get to the fuse. If not, you'd have to pull the entire unit down and remove the outer case. I have a GE SpacemakerXL

When there is no heat, but everything else seems to work, it means the magnetron circuit has failed. The magetron is the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. When it fails, it makes a loud buzzing sound. The replacement part can cost as much as a new oven, so it not worth fixing. Get yourself a new oven.

F3 meaning ?

"F3 Shorted key panel (touch pad), will occur if a shorted key panel is detected continuously over 60 seconds"

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have a Jvm1090aw. After using the convection

I have a jvm1090aw microwave oven and for some reason it just stopped working. It will still count down the timer but it won't light up and turn on. Also there is a small microwave icon flashing at the bottom right of the screen. Any ideas? Today I tested it again and started it for 30 seconds. The first 8-10 seconds nothing but silent counting down then it turned on for the last 20 seconds. It then turned on again when I tried it immediately after that but nothing 5 minutes later.
