Shorted circuit board is the cause.

it is the dpl chip. if you are in the uk you cannot get one only the USA have them, looks like this. they are not cheap and when putting new on in there is a lot of re-aligning to be done to get the picture back in place. soon the screen will look like a star trek screen saver. to change the chip when the back is off. there is 3 plastic white bits on the board take the caps off and you will find the 3 screws in them.. then when out you need to remove the casing around the chip off heat shield and all. now for the fiddly bit, you need to prize the chip off the board without damaging the board or the part the chip fits in. now I used a plastic splitter 2 and put them iver side and at same time pushed them under and it popped off. no damaged done. just pushed the new on on making sure not to push on the lcd screen in the chip. and them put the board back together. and be fore screwing it back to the plate on the bulb housing. give the chip lcd screen a wipe with a very soft cloth. not screw it down. put every thing back on to the board. now down the back were the bulb housing is there is a switch. get an elastic band and make the switch stick up or down that is up to you just make sure you do this not the 3 screws part is coming up so you need a test card signal you can download them on the internet hook up a pc laptop etc any thing with a screen test picture on it. and turn on tv with out the back on the switch you just did with the elastic band will let the tv turn on. now the screen will be out of place. get to the source you have selected to use laptop etc. and put the screen test picture up. now you need to to keep moving the board with the 3 screws until the screen fits the screw it down and put the caps back on. found it was best to use the HDMI sauce to set up. hope this help you and good look.

Sounds like the power supply capacitors have failed. If you can't replace capacitors on a circuit board on your own, it's time to take in to a repair shop.

Dont use cleaners or windex on screen !

May look different in many cases, but you will know when your lamp is bad, picture will be dark or none at all.

I'd search ebay, amazon and shopjimmy.com for a replacement as that one is probably not compatible with your model. Find a user manual for your TV, they aren't hard to replace yourself

It sounds that the lamp inverter board has damaged. Replace it.

If the ballast is truly bad purchase another and replace it--they are not meant to be "repaired".It can also if damaged/bad damage the Lamp it is directly connected to.Google the model number of the set with "Ballast" to locate a replacement part and cost.

I'd look at the ballast's compacitor. If it has a domed top instead of being flat it most likely means it was blown and the ballast is bad.

Sir when replacing the bulb you should reset the lamp hour meter. 1. while on the standby mode press "mute" then the numbers 1,8 and 2 in succession, and press the power button.
2. wait until "loading factory" appears on your screen and the service menu is displayed with the lamp life hours. You will see a list of service options.

Page 91 2nd paragragh. Lamp needs to be replaced. I bought ours December of 08 and had the exact symptoms. Waiting for a bulb, so I cannot confirm yet.

The description sounds like a protection mode has been activated and the smoke obviously confirms this. Sounds like it will need to be inspected by a service technician and could get expensive
