A peg perego battery typically charges for 8-12 hours. Though in the short run it won't hurt to leave the battery plugged into the charger after the light on the charger turns green, it could wear out the battery if you do this continually. It is almost always the battery that has a problem. Here is a place that I got my peg perego batteries from http://www.mypegperegoparts.com/battery.html
Here is a link to the peg perego john deer HPX windshield http://www.mypegperegoparts.com/sagi8103.html or you can call their help desk at 1-801-655-0800
It's probably the circuit board that you can get here http://www.mypegperegoparts.com/meva0024.html but you can also contact their repair desk 1-801-655-0800
Yes, I would connect the battery to each motor and see if they work. You can call the repair desk at 1.801.655.0800 and they can help you. I had problems with my other peg perego and they walked me through it
It is a gearbox that needs to be replaced. When I replaced mine I replaced both of them. Mypegperegoparts.com has them here, http://www.mypegperegoparts.com/asgi0158xwtv.html
You can also call them if you are unsure at 1.801.655.0800
It's possible the contacts on the battery are bent, so when the trains moves the contacts lose connection with the battery. remove the battery, paying attention to whether or not the contacts are tight on the battery. Use a small screwdriver to bend the contact out, so it pushes on the battery with more force. You may need to fold up a small piece of foil and put it behind the tag to keep contact with the battery.Typically there is a spring on one side of the contact and a small copper tag on the other. if the tag cannot be bent outward, you may need to use a pair of needlenose pliers to stretch the spring out -be careful though, you could break the plastic mount for the spring which would ruin the train and give you one unhappy conductor!Hope this helps and thanks for using Fixya!!
A common question we see on FixYa is how to replace the wheels on Electric Ride-Ons. The video below shows how to replace the wheels, gearbox and motor on a Peg Perego 24 Volt Sportsman 850 Twin.Watch below and your little tyke will be riding around in no time!
Do you hear a click when it stops working? if you do its the thermal switch tripping, this would probably indicate a bad motor, lift up the rear end of the vehicle and check to make sure that both wheels are spinning in all of the gears
if it is 2 6v batteries wired in series, then the main leads would be connected to the positive of one battery and the negative of the other battery, and then another wire would connect the remaining terminals of the two batteries together
