Goodman Furnace Draft Inducer Blower Fasco # A285 Questions & Answers
Where is the furnace filter located on the furnace
Hi, this is a pretty generic answer, so it's really more of a guideline.
Some come attached at the bottom of the furnace, and are generally removed when the unit is installed. If it's there, it pulls out like a drawer.
Most furnaces are installed on a platform, which is really a box (plenum). Below the platform, and opening to the room, is a louvered grate. Air is drawn in through the grate and into the furnace. The grate has clips on it to keep it closed. Loosening the clip(s) allows the grate to be opened. The filter is usually behind there.
Best regards, and hope that this helps,

The fan motor went out and the furnace is not even
I have an Amana High Efficiency furnace that I purchased 5 years ago this past October (2009). My furnace started making a horrible noise last night and then stopped working. The repair person, told me my draft inducer motor needed replaced, and showed me where the plastic fan blade inside of the inducer was "chewed up." Of course my first question is, "How can a 5 year old furnace need such a costly repair already?" The only answer I received is that it will cost me close to $500.00 to have the situation remedied (service call, parts, labor). I started looking around on the internet today, and discovered that high efficiency furnace inducer motors are usually encased in plastic and the motor fan blades are made of plastic rather than metal like the lower efficiency models. Turns out that these plastic blades over time can't withstand the high heat generated and in time (they estimate 3-4 years) break. The damage to the blades causes an imbalance in the way they spin, which in turn, generates the resulting problem of a damaged draft inducer motor. Appears this is a design flaw. Yeah! I'll say. I spent $3100.00 for a brand new furnace and 5 years later I'm paying another $500.00 and apparently can look forward to doing the same in 3-5 more years! Maybe this answers in part your question?
Furnace lights fan comes on then fan goes off
Have some one hold the bottom door safety switch, turn furnace on wait until heating fan relay clicks, and check at terminal (Heat) & terminal (neutral or where all the white wires are located on the control board) for 115 volts to 120 volts. If voltage is present replace blower motor, if voltage drops out while running then replace control board.Turn power off to furnace, open bottom door and feel blower motor with hand, if motor is real hot replace motor. you can not oil this type of motor, it has to be replaced along with the compacitor. Good luck.
Smell fumes like exhaust when furnace comes on
You really, really need to get your furnace checked by an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) expert. Your furnace has a section where the fire heats tubes that air is blown across then out to your home to heat it. The air in your home and the air from the combustion process should never mix. If you smell exhaust, it's possible there is a breakdown in this part of the furnace and exhaust, which can include carbon monoxide, could be pulled into the air stream and be circulated in your home. Carbon monoxide can and will make you go to sleep and not wake up! Do not use the furnace until you get it checked.
Janitrol GMP 100-4 replacing blower new blower has
Look on the motor wiring diagram, being that it is yello would lead me to believe that this isa muti-speed blower. If this is true, look for a place on the terminal board that says "Park"Otherwise make sure you tape it off and move it out of the way
Is the vent suppose to be pvc 2
This is an old one, I know they make 2" pvc, but I have never seen 2" Galv. Sheetmetal. I'mguessing you have a High Eff. Furnace, therefore you would use pvc and be able to goout the roof or out the sidewall
Furnace will not come on
There is a switch on the blower compartment cover that needs to be closed to make your furnace work. It should be located on top frame of blower compartment, Make sure you have the cover properly closed. Hope this helps you. Thanks
