First make sure your battery is good. The charging systems on these mowers is not sufficient to charge a completely dead battery. If the battery is good, you have an electrical drain somewhere on the unit. Tracking it down will take a multi-meter and a little time.

Check with Briggs and Stratton to confirm but, for summer use 10W30 or a straight 30 weight automotive grade oil will work.

There should be a brake stop on the spindle itself. When the belt is released, the brake should contact the spindle and stop the blade. If this is missing or not working, you could see the problem you are having.

Depends on where the black smoke is coming from. If it's coming from the deck then it's a belt issue, if it's coming from the engine then you have a carburetor issue. Most likely the governor isn't set up correctly or the choke isn't all the way off.

Not familiar with this model, but a thought, check for a kill switch.

Hi, the is a blade belt AND a drive belt on these models. chances are your drive belt is broken or just off the pulleys. if you take the rear plate off the mower you will be able to see the drive belt directly under the seat.

it sounds like the transmission through shaft is frozen in the housing? if it still pulls in foreward gear and will not shift to any other gear you will probably need to tear down the transmission or replace it. if not mechanically inclined will have to go to a shop

well first remove neg battery terminal. then remove the battery cable nuts on the solenoid. then remove the smaller wires. finally remove bolts holding the solenoid. reverse order to install
