Sounds like gummy gas. Try a shot of carburetor cleaner down the fuel line to the carburetor. Or take the carburetor apart and clean it, squirting through all the tiny holes and inspecting the float needle for abnormal wear. replace the float needle assembly if necessary.

Can I jump start a john deere 445
Yes, you can jump start it with any 12 volt battery on any vehicle. Just do not have the donor vehicle running. Connect the positive cable from the donor battery to the positive post on the battery on the mower. Then connect the negative cable from the donor battery to the engine block or other ground source on the mower. Do not connect it to the negative post on the battery. Make sure you have a good connection on bare metal for the negative cable. Disconnect the negative cable the instant the mower starts.

JD Model LX178, 1996 Model
It could be a few things:
1. Check the belt that drives the blades; it could be broken or slipping.
2. Make sure the PTO Switch/Lever is working properly. The cable could be broken, or the spring that sometimes help to engage the blade could be broken.
3. There may also be a large stick lodged in the belt that drives the blades.
Good Luck!

Changing thermostat
Hello,
To change the thermostat just unscrew the base at the end of the outgoing pipe from the radiator to the engine, you will there see the thermostat. After the tractor has been resting for a while unscrew 2 screws on each side of the thermostat. Remove and replace with new one. Screw everything back.
Thanks.

We have a LA 105
Did you drain the old fuel from the carburetor. If not, please do that and try again. Remember to clamp off the fuel line from the tank before you do this or you will drain the tank to (if gravity fed, not so if it has a fuel pump, like if the seat is above the tank). If you did drain the carburetor, did you replace the fuel filter and flush the fuel line of old gas if it has a fuel pump? With all that taken care off, and still does not run, then it looks like you may need to clean the carburetor.

I have a John Deere 102 riding mower with a manual
Check the belt its not tight, its loose or not fitted right.------
May be you put the belt loose or not properly.------
I agree belt is new, the belt is not the problem but its placement is problem.its coming out of its pulleys.Recheck that belt is intact and in-place and not getting loose.--------
Also recheck the connection of pto switch and seat switch.Remove the switch one by one and by pass it with a jumper wire and see if the blades getting engaged.-------
----------
Also check the bolt that holds the idler arm to the deck ,that bolt gets worn out causing the the arm to move up and down.
----------
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Battery doesn"t charge
I don't see how this is related to the float?
With the engine running, measure output voltage from the alternator/charger at the battery. It should be about 13.5 vDC. It should increase a little bit with higher revs. If voltage doesn't change with engine running vs. engine off then you probably have a bad alternator which probablly has to be replaced or repaired by a service shop.

My Tractor (425) won't start
If you have no spark the first thing to replace the time delay module on the left rear side of engine. Its black and about 2 inches by 1 inch with yellow, red, orange and black wires going to it. Replacement is round shaped with same amount of wires. If no fuel to carb check for flow at filter, if theres flow but no pressure look for a split fuel line in tank between pump and sender.

When cutting grass,The engine starts
The air noise you heard from the tank is the key to the problem I think. You are drawing a vacuum in the fuel tank, that when it gets strong enough will prevent fuel from draining out until the vacuum is broken, like when you pulled the line and let air into the system. For normal operation there is a hole in the fuel cap that lets air in the top and prevents drawing a vacuum. To test this, loosen the cap so air can enter via the threads and start it and try mowing, see if reoccurs. If it does not then the problem is the fuel cap. Sometimes the cap becomes plugged, clean it if you can, replace if you can not.
I hope this gets you going again, please let me know.
