It is important to engage the hand guard into the brake mechanism before tightening the screws, if the brake is aready on prior to fitting you will need to remove the sprocket and possibly the clutch to get the brake onto the machine, as the band will be smaller than the drum, once on and engaged into the mechanism the hand guard will pull back to the top handle and load the brake, you can then refit clutch and sprocket.

It's possible that the carburetor diaphragm in the lower chamber has hardened or cracked. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? If not, try moving the line that comes up from the fuel filter to the carburetor over to the primer port that normally connects to the other carburetor connection. Try to pump fuel again--if successful, then there is blockage within the carburetor which should be cleaned with spray carburetor cleaner inside and out. There is a small filter screen inside the main body that can be easily plugged with stale fuel. Hope this helps!

Should be a screw next to the bar. you can tighten it and it will tighten the chain. Keep in mind that the 2 bolts holding the bar and cover in place have to be loose to do this.

have you tried spraying Starter fluid into the Carb to see if it will at least try to run and verify you have good spark?

If you entered the 42CC 18" it is a PP4218(AV, AVHD or AVL) Gas Saw Type 2. The letters after the 18 correspond to the type of chain tensioning system.

The dash number of your serial number is the type. Match the "Handle, Chassis and Bar Assembly" with your saw to complete the IPL.

With the throttle body in place. The backside (facing the fire wall) has two hex fuel ports. The port closer to the passenger side is the fuel supply. The fuel port closer to the driver's side is the fuel return.

I can't find your model number at Poulanpro.com but in all the chainsaws that I have worked on the starter rope comes in the cover which is held on by usually 4 or so screws. I suggest that you go to the site I listed and look at the 42 CC engine (they have a parts manual for it) before removing anything else. Let me know if I can help further.

because you interfered with it , the warranty is void and if you have a blocked line ( unlikely) then any repairs are at your cost it could be a stuck valve under the primer bulb that is the problem so remove the bulb and check the valves operation

This is a common problem. The fuel lines can become brittle and fracture, or sometimes they swell and will not stay on their connections. The tube that connects between the carburetor and motor is likely used to pulse the fuel pump that is internal to the carburetor. The primer pulls the fuel through the carburetor drawing the air out. As the primer is stroked first air than fuel is pumped out of the carburetor. The output of the primer returns to the fuel tank. That fuel line appears to have failed or become disconnected in your craftsman. Either the hose has broken at or near the fuel tank, or has pulled out of the tank. There is a small hole in the tank for many machines. The hole is smaller(providing a seal) than the tube diameter requiring a minor force to squeeze the tube back in place. Look for the fuel feed tube that also connects from the fuel tank to the carberator. Any loose connections will allow air into the carberator and it will not beable to run. Important is that the fuel feed tube can not be switched with the return tube from the primer. Connected inside the tank is a fuel filter that protects the carberator from contamination. The chain needs sharpened or replaced. You can purchase the tools from any hardware store, and sharpen the chain yourself in about 15 minutes. Don't worry, your saw is just fine!

Try adjusting the idle 5crew on the carb. Its usually marked with an [ I ] To get it just right, make sure your chain brake is off, screw in the idle 5crew, the saw will rev and the chain will start to turn. Now back the idle off until the chain stops moving and the engine is ticking over nicely.
