Hi,
If the problem is intermittent then the problem could just be foreign objects like crumbs and hair that's trapped under the keys.

Turn the laptop off and stand it on it's side with the lid open. Get a soft, dry paintbrush and brush the keys, gently tap the keyboard in various places with the back of the paintbrush to help dislodge anything that's trapped.

Once your satisfied all the keys are clear turn the laptop on and see if it has made any difference.

If it has not then you may need to replace the keyboard.

Good luck.

You need to build a hardware device that plugs into the printer port.

Get a 25 pin male D sub connector, and solder various wires
to the pins numbered below. The pins on the connector are numbered 1 to 25
For a picture of this hardware device (dongle) go to :-
http://www.tilman.de/sonstiges/toshiba/dongle1.jpg

Connect these pins together by soldering thin insulated wires to the following pins :-
1-5-10,
2-11,
3-17,
4-12,
6-16,
7-13,
8-14,
9-15
Plug the dongle in the printer port and boot up the laptop, you will then be able to bypass the BIOS password and go into the BIOS to reset/remove the password.

I have had this on an iphone 5. Apple sold me a new phone as it was not worth repairing and it was out of the 12 month warranty. Its possible to order a new part and do it yourself but unless you are totally confident and have the skills to open up your phone and reassemble it then its just not worth it.

What is the actual question?

look closely at the keys along the top of the keyboard (usually called F keys). one of them should have a tiny sun icon and the key beside it will have a larger sun icon. hold down the "Fn" key elsewhere on the keyboard while pressing the one of the sun icon keys to brighten or darken the picture. the sun icon keys may also be located on the Arrow keys (<-- --> etc.)

Could be a very easy fix....does your computer seem a little to warm when this happens? If so the fix for this could be getting a better fan.
Sometimes when laptops run too hot they have a safety that shuts it off to prevent damage from heat.
You can find laptop fans pretty cheap on some computer part sites, also making sure your laptop is free from dirt and dust helps keep the temp down.

When does it open on its own?Sometimes it is easy to be press the open button as you close it which of course opens it straight away.It can also fail to lock closed if not opened further than its initial amount that it does open.To close it after it opens you need to draw it back to rearm the mechanism.

You might try taking the battery completely out for about 60 seconds, and see if this does not reset whatever got hosed. Also, unplug any external devices (like wireless keyboard/mouse, SD card reader, ...) that may be trying to use the PCI buss, just in case something is hosed with them.
