unfortunately you destroyed the original when you submerged it in water AS it appears that each unit has it's own special registration code you will have to get a code for the new unit ( should have come with the new unit ) now as the dead unit was in the water , there is every possibility that any information and data on the unit would be lost as well you don't have a good one doing until you buy the licence for it

A) Download the firmware from Archos and save it to your desktop (Make sure the file name on the desktop hasn't changed from the original download file name)

B) The Archos 5 or 7:
1- Plug the unit to you computer via the USB cable.
2- The unit should start automatically and open the following page:
3- From the recovery console (the screen that asks for repair or format etc…)
4- Select "Repair" by scrolling up and down with the volume control on the right of the unit (Do not press "Format" at any time)
5- Now that you are on "Repair" press the on and off button, shortly to validate your selection
6- The unit will go to "Plug the unit etc…" but it is already plugged from point 1 - DO NOT press anything anymore on the Archos
8- Wait until Pc should recognizes your Archos (around seconds)

C) Computer
1- From your computer select the firmware file you downloaded from the net and put it in your Archos (in the root folder, nowhere else, where it has the folders, music, videos, pictures etc… as a file)

D) On the Archos 5 or 7
1- Select "Ok" on the Archos (on & off button) shortly to select and confirm the file is now on the Archos
2- you are done! The Archos 5 or 7 should now read through the file you have transferred and repair the system
3- DO NOT DISCONNECT the USB cable until the process is finished
4- when done safely disconnect (as you usually do, for Mac trash the letter of the Archos to the bin or for PC's: right click the green icon bottom right of the screen for xp & vista)
5- Press on/off button to reboot

Your unit should restart with a fresh repaired, updated system like day one.

Hello wilko1974, This has been an on going issue for Archos 5 users. The new youtube supports flash 10.1+ and the Archos 5 only supports 9. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a clear cut solution for this issue. Archos has not released a firmware update for this and with their new devices it there support for older devices has lowered. I have found that choosing the lower play button that appears over a video plays on Archos more often than the top button. I would recommend trying this and seeing if you get better results. Another possible solution is to open the video in a new window with the link on the top right of youtube video. This however is not on all youtube video pages and with the currently layout is on accessible when the video submitter enables it. It also help to have the latest firmware updates that can be done directly on your device. Hope this helps, Greg

I don't really know about this but my MP3 battery went out I took it apart cut the battery the was in it solderd a new one. If your don't want to do that take to a repaire tech in the phone book.

Here are a couple of links of were to get a replacement LCD Screen.
It should come apart fairly easy and the lcd ribbon should unplug so then you can place the new one in and plug it in.

the tool they send is probably just a fine screwdriver needed to open that back lid...cause the change of the battery is requiring just opening the back lid..and unplug the old one and plug in the new...
I would advice to keep the tablet plugged on the charger and shut down ..when you do the battery changing ...cause if it do not have internal cmos battery ..when you unplug the old one ..it may cause damage on the cmos...and other firmware related flash memory built in ..This way you do not interrupt the flow of power when you do the switching ..

I've found this searching for some info about your problem... This is a statement of Archos support regarding the exact same problem:

Archos 5 origionally didn't come out with Flash 9. There was an update which included flash 9. YouTube are in the process of rolling their videos from Flash 9 to Flash 10. Archos 5 will now only play the old videos on YouTube that have not been rolled over yet. It won't be long before the whole lot is rolled over and the Archos 5 the way it is now will no longer play any videos on YouTube anymore.

This post was posted at the beginning of '09... Several firmware upgrades have been published since then. Though the changelog doesn't state anything about upgrading the Flash version - upgrading to the last firmware version might solve your problem. Get the latest firmware for your device from here (Choose your device from the drop-list under Firmware section on top).

Another important piece of info from Archos support page:
The Android™ browser does not yet support Adobe Flash™. For most web sites however, the ARCHOS will play .FLV video files by redirecting them to the ARCHOS multimedia player and play them in full screen. Flash™ files of type .swf need to be saved first in order to be played.

108 Seek Not Complete A Seek command did not complete in the time allotted.
This may be an anomaly or a defect with the drive. Retest.
Replace the drive if the error repeats.

Hi,

This is a common problem that i have discussed with many people in different forums.This might be a coincidence that this problem arises as soon as you tried to format. However, there has been talks for rebooting problems associated with this device. Unfortunately, this is not a DIY and you need to send the unit for repair. I remember few of my clients getting it fixed without any charge. However, i am not sure what's the situation right now.

As far as i am aware you cannot record directly from the tv using a dvr snap on to record from the tv you would need the dvr station.
