In mitutoyo digital vernier battry inserted upper portion side by display you battry cover theire is an arrow mark downward release you will find battery in side remove it and put new one battery code Sr 44 you will from marketor in mall try it

There should be a small set screw you can loosen by hand and adjust the face of the dial to zero with the jaws closed....this is typical of most calipers...it allows you to zero the dial on a given thickness of material and only read variations based on that thickness.

The answers above by Kerry Littleton have nothing to do with our calipers. The answer above by Bob Pulver is well-intentioned but doesn't address the real issue.The real issue is the ORIGIN button is little-used and a bit reluctant to "make". The solution is to use a blunt plastic probe to REALLY PUSH down the button and hold it. The caliper will reset to zero.

Don't take it apart just get a toothbrush or small fine wire brush and clean out the teeth.Use an air gun to blow out behind the dial as well but only on the frame and not the dial part itself. Also check to make sure that the locking mechanism is loose enough as this will cause it to feel like it is jamming.

Just loosen the screw that clamps the dial in place, close the jaws, and turn the dial to zero. Then tighten the screw clamp

As far as I know there isn't a way to get them any better than .01 without sending them in for repair. you can try longislandindicator.com for repairs

I wouln't do it, you will strip the rack & gears. But if you must, a 10 pound hammer would make short work of it.
