Hello. Use an ordinary extension cord and plug it into the back of the light and into the wall. Charge it for 20-30 hours, but not more than 30 hours. Here is the downloadable manual for future reference

the small lights on when you switch?Try to switch the small lights together with the main light at the same time..If the small light will off when you switch the main light is meaning that the batery is too weak. Thus you need to charge, but your one problem is that it doesnt charge?Check the wire if it has cut or loosen connector. Most of the problem about charger is the wire itself due to a regular shagling or moving during a charge will perform. If the wire is good, next to check is the fuse.,Finally,if all these mention parts are good, you must check the Rectifier Diode if it is shorted. If not, then you need to replace the batery because the problem is that it is not charging, but it is not storing a power on your batery.
On the other hand,,if at the same time you switch the lights and the small light is still on but the main light is still doesnt work: check if there is a fuse and see if it is open,or check the main bulb itself because maybe it was opened too?

I just bought one too and instructions need deciphering. Select wood or metal with selector switch. Put unit flat against wall. Press and hold on/off button on left. (It looks like it must be kept pressed in at all times to be 'on' and when released it's 'off). The unit with calibrate and give a beep back and lower red LED will stay on. Move unit slowly left/right and more red LEDs light up until green is on. This is 1st edge. Mark it with pencil. Move unit along until Green is off and down to single LED. Then move it back in opp. direction until Green is on again. This is 2nd edge. Attached is a scan of page from Instruction Manual. Quality is lowish as attachment limit here is 150kb.e4edea4.jpg

Check to make sure battery isn't bad first.. If upon changing the battery, it still doesn't work, the laser might be bad or worn out. Good luck... HDTV GURU JAY

if you changed batteries you need to put them close to each other to pair them. I have one I would know!!! also lithium batteries work best in the outdoor unit and last longer
