My dryer will heat and run when I hit the start

if you send the model number that's on the machine i can look up the parts for you, when this happens it could be two things,it could be the even heat board or the relay,if you open the top console you'll see two relays, one with red wires and the other with blue wires, the one on the right is for the motor, you can change out the relays to see if it will stay running but then you'll have no heat and you'll know the relay is bad, then just change out the felay on the left, that's for the heat,or if you have a meter check for continuity on the relay on the right side,if the relays are good and there is an even heat board also located in the console change that out,if it doesn't have either part then change out the start button, this is why i need the model number so i can look up your machine to help you better

I have a kenmore 70 series electric dryer that is

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape or with an ohm meter to test the thermostat/thermistor. (Should have/show continuity)
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor.
(Thermal fuse.If it overheats the dryer will not operate. It's located on the blower housing. It cannot be reset. A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat. You can test it with an Ohm meter or continuity checker, if no continuity, replace it)
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST.
This could cause a FIRE, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.

Dryer will not start

Most of these dryer have the heating element in the reara262276.jpgOpposite of the element is the lint chute on this style. The fuse on these is located over the blower8db5464.jpgOn the other style with the filter in the door you must drop the base panel and remove the filter bladder. Then the fuse is right there on the blower housing8dff032.jpg More here If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/dan_73bbd84fe1d95b61

Kenmore Elite electric dryer-65942401 and it runs

You need to check the breaker, often the heat 1/2 of the 220 volt breaker trips and is not visually obvious. Best to know so check with a volt meter, or forceably turn off the breaker, FULLY off, press hard, and then back on and test again. If it keeps happening, you may need to have an electrition investigate.

There is very little failure of heating elements, but not unheard of. More common is a bra wire shorts the element. remove it and often you are good to go, but sometimes it burns through.

I have a Kenmore 70 Series electric dryer #66702

This is usually caused by a motor getting too hot. The motor has a shutoff to protect it against burnout. It will reset when it gets cool. As the motor overheats more and more these shutoffs become more frequent and longer

Motors get hot for several reasons:

1. Motor going bad
2. Lint around motor causing it to retain heat
3. Vent system open at some point inside or behind case allowing heated air to remain in motor area

Follow the procedure below to disassemble and check interior of dryer. Vacuum carefully especially around and in the ends of the motor.

Disconnect Power. Lift Cover on lint filter. Remove two Phillips screws taking care NOT to allow them to fall into the blower housing. Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.

Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a 5/16” hex head screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior. Reverse process to re-assemble. Take careful note of belt configuration BEFORE removing it. Draw a diagram of its travel.

Motor and idler pulley for dryer will be on right.
