Ice Maker not working at all

I have been having trouble with my KitchenAid Superba for few months. First, the water and ice maker stopped working, nothing dispensed. Later, after few days, it started to work by itself. It did this few times and suddenly it was not working properly. Two weeks ago the ice maker quit making ice but the water dispenser still working. We have trouble shoot few areas and have follow advises and ideas but nothing works. This is an expensive refrigerator that should not be giving problems withing the first two years of usage. Can you help? Thanks in advance

I have the same refrigerator and was having a very similar problem. My water would dispense just fine, but the ice maker suddenly began making partial cubes of ice, then quit making ice, than started again before finally stopping again. At first I thought it was because the fill tube coming from the back of the frig was frozen, but after clearing it the problem persisted. I traced the problem back to the valve at the back right corner of the frig. I disconnected the power inputs and water lines, then took the valve apart. On the side that feeds the ice maker there is a small washer inside of the valve with a very small hole that only allows a limited amount of water flow through it. A small pieced of rubber had broken loose from another section of the valve an was clogging this small hole. I cleaned the entire valve system and reassembled it. The ice maker is now back in action!!! The fill tube going into the tray had frozen because of the small trickle of water that was going into it was not sufficient to keep it from freezing. Make sure this is still clear before turning everything back on. I hope this helps several of you out there, as this seems to be a common problem.

refrigerator stopped cooling

7 year old side by side ksrs25ihbl02 stopped cooling either side. water line still works, as do the lights, but it stopped cooling with no other noticable symptoms.

The most common problems for refers not cooling is a condenser fan motor (the one that cools the compressor) is out. This can be caused by either a mouse has tried to jump trough the fan and it came on or a loss of grease or oil. There is no way to oil them so they have to be replaced. That is the problem especially if you unplugged the refer and it worked for a while then quit. If the fan doesn't cool the compressor it will overheat and shut down coming on intermittently then shutting off again. As for the refer that still doesn't cool when everything else does you may have an burnt overload also. Check the compressor area for burnt or stalled components ex. fan motor, relay, overload. If your compressor is out plan on spending from $300.00 to $500.00. But check the suggested components first. And beware there are appliance shops out there that will find one of these problems and give you an estimate for a compressor. Find someone reputable.

My refrigerator is making a 3 beep noise every couple of minutes. Also sometimes when I open the door (refrigerator or freezer side) it is dark (no light, no sensor lights at the top). The bulb is fine. Can you help?

We had the same problem. Our fridge was beeping and the lights would not come on. To stop the beeping and turn the lights back on we had to press the OVER TEMPERATURE RESET button. As soon as we did this, the lights came back on and beeping stopped. Hope this helps.

Water dispenser not working but making ice

I don't see how the water valve could be the problem if the ice maker is still working. What could be another source?

GW, the valve on your refrigerator is actually a "2-in-one" kinda setup. One water line comes in, but splits at the valve to perform the separate functions, chilled water and ice. It's called a dual coil valve... one coil for each function.

Generally speaking these are the Achilles heels of the plumbing system. The easy way to check it is this... pull the fridge away from the wall, have someone get behind it down where the water line goes behind the cardboard cover to listen. Now have someone try to get water from the dispenser. If you hear the valve energize and get no water, you have a bad valve assy. (You'll hear a low "hummmm" at the valve when it's energized)

Replacement is easy. The part number is 2315533 and lists for about $45.00. Turn the water off, remove the cover from the lower rear, remove the valve. Remove the tubing and electrical connectors and install on the new valve, then reassemble. All you'll need is a 7/16" wrench and a 1/4" socket or nut driver.

If you don't hear the low hum I mentioned, remove the cover, reach in there and touch the valve's mounting bracket and have your helper try to get water again. You should feel the bracket vibrate slightly. If so, see above.

If the valve makes no noise and doesn't vibrate, we'll have to look deeper. Let us know what you find.

Our Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. We replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and that didn't help. We replaced the copper tubing again with plastic tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Our tap water doesn't taste this bad.

over temperature reset button keeps ringing and blinking

We have a KitchenAid Superba Side-by-side refrigerator. Everything is working fine, but our "Over temperature reset" button on the top control panel keeps coming on (many many times a day) and gives off a high-pitched ringing noise. We have to keep pushing the button to turn it off, but we don't know why it is going off. The temperature is fine, the food in the freezer and fridge are fine. Can you tell us what's going on? And how to turn the thing off? Thanks!

I called the KitchenAid customer support number. Found out that control goes off when the temperature of the fridge is above 48 degrees (i.e., over a few days, the food would be spoiling). This is not the case for ours, since everything seems to be working fine. They said there is probably something malfunctioning with that button/control, and there is no manual turn-off mechanism. We have to call someone to come and fix it.

ice maker water taste like chlorine but tap tastes fine

Before and after the installation of our new fridge, ice cubes made in both the old unit and now the new one taste like chemicals. Tap water tastes fine. changed the piping and still have bad taste but only in the ice.

Put a in-line water filter on the water line if you want. The taste is from the food and items you have in the refrigerator. Clean it out and keep your items in proper storage. Ice collects the smells in the line and the fridge. Change your ice that is sitting in the bin, wask out the bin with water and baking soda. Hope this helps.

where is the eject button for a kitchenaid superba water filter?

I have found the water filter in the grille of this side-by-side refrigerator, but can't pull it out, and the manual says there is an eject button. I don't see anything besides the filter head behind the grille.

I went through this same thing! You probably can't find an eject button because there isn't one on the model that you have. It probably isn't turning because it's just stuck and you have to just have confidence that you're not breaking it and force it to the left - all of a sudden, it will "pop" and turn easily.

Here is a great link to show you the different types of Kitchen Aid refrigerator filters - which kind has an eject button and which doesn't:

http://kitchenaid.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/149

I also found a great (and short!) video from Kitchen Aid that really helped me see how to do it. Try this one - I thought it was the best:

http://www.kitchenaid.com/content.jsp?sectionId=852

Finally knowing there wasn't an "eject" button saved me many hours of looking, and the tip about using the handles of the plyers worked great.

It is really discouraging to think you can't just screw out a water filter, but it isn't you. The directions are misleading - they don't match what you're seeing, and it doesn't twist out easily - it has to be forced....and THEN it twists out easily.

Hope this helps. It worked for me when I'd completely given up.

Best of luck!

Eileen
