Why does my new toilet spurt water?

There's a small clog. Plunge it until it flushes and flows freely.

Toilet is only a couple years old but gets a ring

The problem is as you said it is rarely used and the ring is from the lime build up from the water evaporating at the same line all the time. You will need to use or at least flush the toilet more often and maybe put a auto type bowl cleaner unit in this toilet. The auto unit I speak of would be a hang in or tablet type. http://www.bing.com/shopping/searchq=auto+toilet+bowl+cleaner&FORM=HURE
I do not mean to recommend on over any other.

25 year old toilet, all of a sudden, seems to be

The tank to bowl bolts need to be replaced. The tank will need to be removed and new SOLID BRASS BOLTS and the gasket will need to be replaced. When you tighten the new bolts on the
tank, lay a two foot level across the tank with cover removed. Tighten each side a little at a time.
I always tighten the tank down until it just touches the raised rib on the bowl, and no more than that.
You can buy generic tank to bowl kits, but make sure the bolts are solid brass.

Not enough water in the bowl after flushing

I don't know what kind of toilet you have, but if it has a tank, then probably the tube that squirts water down the pipe into the bowl has come out. Take the top off the tank and as you watch, flush the toilet and make sure water is going thru the tube down into the pipe. good luck

Handle does not lift the flapper. but the nylon

Hi,
The handle part is broken. This is not uncommon, the minerals in the water corrode the handle and it breaks. A new handle can be bought at most any local hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, or similar store. They are only a few bucks for a reolacement handle, so you are not looking at a major investment here.
It is best to remove the old handle and take it along to compare so you get the right one. There are a number of variations of toilet handles.
One thing to remember when removing the handle is that the threads are backwards or left hand. this is oppsite of normal threads. When you think you are loosening the handle you will actually be tightening it.
Take off the chain or whatever is hooked to the flapper. The loosen the nut right in side the handle. Slide the nut out over the handle. Then carefully wiggle the handle loose and pull it out through the hole. It may come out in pieces, just take it all along with you in a baggie.
To install just do everything in revers and adjust the chain to the new handle.

In the tank, when I flush, water comes shooting out of the black plastic thing, about 2 feet high! How can I make this stop so it flushes properly again?

is the black thing between the the tank and the bowl?
if so, go to any of the home center or plumping store for the seal.
shunt off the water and unbolt the 3 bolts that holds the tank to the bowl from the buttom. you may need a flat screw driver to help hold the bolts. pull up the tank slowly, and lay it on the side, replace the seal, reseat the tank on to the bowl and tighten the bolts. make sure all bolts are equal pressure and the tank is level.

Describe your Eljer &

I have not heard of any toilet manufacturers offering a lifetime guarantee (except maybe for defects in manufacturing), especially since flappers tend to deteriorate with exposure to chlorinated water, fill valves eventually fail, and toilet seats do break. Pick out a replacement that suits your fancy, unbolt the old one from below, and install the new one. Don't overtighten as the porcelain could break.

Shifting & leaky toilet

They make plates that go under the  (plastic pipe?) flange which allows one to tighten down the toilet better. Seems that your flange and toilet are not level with one another? You may need to use plastic or other shims to level the toilet before  tightening the bolts.

Motor doesn't turn on.

Do you have the model number? A lot of these systems use a pneumatic tube to send air pressure to a switch. If you have one of those, make sure the tube is not loose or cracked.

Air switch stuck

A sticky air button can be one of two issues.
  1. The Air Button can simply be worn out in which case it obviously needs to be changed. Measure the size of hole once it is removed and then you will know what size you need to reinstall.
  2. The inside of the Air Button may have some calcium built up inside where the button goes up/down. If you can get the center button up and removed then you can take some soft emery cloth and gently run around the outside edge of the button and the inside of the air button body. This will gently remove any calcium deposited there and allow the button to go up and down easily.
