The iron will not produce steam.

There are several thermal sensors around the tank, did you make sure they were not damaged or bent...they are "bi-metallic" strips, meaning they are two disimilar pieces designed to have different thermal expansion rates so at certain temp they separate (open) or move together (close) telling the control logic board to enable heater. Do make sure you did not bend them or over torque them when reattaching to their respective attachment points.

Sheathing on water cord has slipped down and now

The best way to deal with it is to open the base of the cold iron which uses Security Torx fasteners (you can get bits at Harbor Freight). Be gentle, there are some hidden fasteners that are blocked by the power cord and such. Take careful drawings or better yet take a few digital pix so you can reassemble without any trouble, use masking tape and sharpie to label hoses. Use needle nose pliers to back off wire hose clamps, push the cloth braid back towards the tank end, and cut off 1" or so the hoses dressing them down evenly but still will reach the desired locations, put the strain relief holders and reassemble and your done. If you need part(s), listed below is the local service center

I have a few Rowenta DG980's that won't stop steaming

I would be more inclined to believe the trigger steam switch is jammed or hung up in the housing. It is a small micro-switch inside the handle under the trigger actuator. You can pry up the blue cushion from the handle from the front towards the back cord using an orange stick or screwdriver but not damage stuff. The button nib may be jammed against the switch hole/housing. Look here for getting parts...

Low steam due to clogged vents

Only clean your Rowanta 980 with clear filtered water only. The unit comes with a small hose and faucet adapter to flush the steam tank thru the threaded plug when cold. Do not use hard tap water, that is where most of the mineral deposits come from. The other is storing the iron with water in it without purging all steam/water tank dray. Do this several times running dry with the burst of steam over towels to blow as much of the stuff out as possible. A new sole plate will cost close to $90 or so if you want to replace rather than clean it.

My Rowenta Master Steam Generator - Steam button

Now the not so good news. This model uses what I call a "flutter pump" that turns on when the boiler needs more water pumped in if the reservoir is dry and the red light comes on indicating it is out of water.
Generally, if you remove the blue water reservoir and turn on the unit, in about 5 minutes the boiler should have sufficient heat converting the residual water in the system to steam, for at least one or 2 "bursts of steam".

If all this works, then likely the $75 electronic printed ckt board driver detector is okay. It enables the flutter pump, fills the boiler with a few tablespoons of water to be converted to steam and repressurizes the steam system. It is the sequence logic this board does that you can use to determine the bad part, find and replace it yourself. There are many thermostats and sensors and without a schematic it is tough to reverse engineer.

The most expensive parts are the tank heater and sole plate elements followed by the ckt board (make sure you label all the connections & draw a color coded diagram before replacing this part) especially likely if the flutter pump does not turn on and everything else gets hot & steams is okay if unit less than 5-10 yrs old. BTW a new unit is $350 so you have to weigh your options and talk estimate for repair with repair tech if you go that route. A lot can be said if your unit is not that old, have used clear water, allowed steam to run dry (minimizing long term storage with water in unit), and cleaning the boiler as specified in manual. It is worth the price to repair OR replace. It is a great machine.

Steam leaking from around lid

Hello, kindly the the solution underneath,i strongly believe it will be helpful to you.
Try to fill the iron with white vinegar, set the heat control to LINEN, waited for it to get hot, turn the STEAM setting to CLEAN, then tilted the iron slowly back and forth between the vertical and past horizontal positions. I did this until half of the vinegar escaped, switched the STEAM setting to STEAM and repeated the slow back and forth tilting. While performing this exercise, the iron stopped leaking. I am now going to repeat this procedure periodically to maintain good functioning of my two irons.
Thanks,you are highly appreciated.

DG-980 Iron: The button to use the steam is stuck. I was ironin...

Hi Mary, sounds like something jammed in the trigger mechanism or the microswitch button is stuck in the housing. Unplug the iron, let it cool. Gently pry up the blue cushion from the handle from the front towards the rear cord, you will see the trigger, the actuator tab and the microswitch button (nib) that should be sticking out, if it is flush with the housing it is jammed down. That switch is replaceable, but I don't know how savy you or your appliance servicer are at replacing it. Here is where I get my parts:

What is the best way to clean my Rowenta iron.

I always run the DG980 till the steam runs dry, unplug and let cool. Rowenta recommends using clear water ONLY. They even provide a small hose & faucet adaper to flush out the steam tank reservoir.

Since it sounds like you do not have it, the next best thing is to use filtered water (I have a 3 cylinder water filter in the kitchen for drinking water), The tank has a plug on the side which should be removed once unit is cold, tank flushed with filtered water and drained completely and leave the treaded metal plug and trim cover off to air dry completely, as well as the blue tank.

Rowenta cord repair

I would get the part for your specific Rowenta iron from the Rowenta service center for this half of the US:

California Electric Service in Concord CA (it is the only Rowenta repair station in California) go to either of the following addresses:
their website is: http://www.californiaelectricservice.com/
or tech service: [email protected]

Then, if you do not want to send it there, go to local Applicance servicer you trust to have cord replaced locally if you prefer. I know it seems picky, but consumer products are UL approved, and I would not want loved ones working with a product I did not have serviced properly.

I need to replace the cord on my steam iron. Can i

If you can use a screwdriver you can probably do it yourself. Take all the screws out of the handle which should allow you to get to the cord. Determine how they have it attached to your unit. If it is spade lugs there could be a problem. If it is soldered there could be a problem. If they are screwed on we can proceed. Remove the wires and hookup your new cord which could be an old extension cord which is no longer any good. Put your unit back together and you should be good to go.

I have a dg980 rowenta

You know I have fixed many such problems in the past. The solution really is in the details that we as techs dont have. Mainly a picture.
What you need is to ask someone familiar with fabricating small parts what they think. The problem is you never know if you'll end up with a Tim Tayler. :)
When dealing with plastics there are a number of choices. One of my favorites is epoxy to repair plastics. But prep is very important.
Check the yellow pages for your area for Plastic repair. You just might get lucky and find someone.

Rowenta DG-980 iron. Trying to

Hi

Thank you for your query

It will need a fair amount of pressure but you better of trying a thin flat bladed screwdriver than a popsicle stick, as thi will break.

You will need to slide the screwdriver across all the way through thus making it loose and then slowly pry up at the same time as moving across

Ihope this has been useful

Rowenta DG-980 iron. Trying to

Hello,

you need a real hard pressure to be able to get it off. Use a flat screw driver to forcefully lift up the mold.

But you need to be careful to avoid damage, but at the same time, you need a real hard pressure, because it was sealed from the factory.

I wish you good luck.
