My screen keeps blacking out, we actually have to
The fault may be a broken ribbon cable that connect the screen to the motherboard. Less likely is that the connector is loose on the motherboard. The connectors are normally very well seated and don't normally come loose.
One thing that you must do, is that if you can get the screen working, even once, save all your important files and pictures onto an external device, such as a USB stick.

I wanted to install windows
to start with win xp is no longer supported by Microsoft as is win 7
that means that any faults will not be rectified so if it doesn't install correctly after a couple of attempts up grade to win 8 or win 10
many programs will now not run on xp as they all modified to run win 7 or later

Check and secure the hard drive to make sure that the jolt did not mess up the connection to the mo bo. Then go into the bios to make sure that the drive is being recognized. If not recognized then you will get no boot up and it is possible it may have been damaged via the drop.
To confirm hard drive condition remove it and plug it into any desk top computer and see if it is recognized. If so perhaps the mo bo got damaged.

Fn+num lk not working
There is no standard meaning to any Fn +Fx key combinations. It depends on the manufacturer and the laptop model.
Usually the Fn key works in combination with the Function (Fn) keys F1-F12, and maybe ESC.
In my Toshiba, there is an overlaid numeric pad that can be activated by pressing Fn +F11. Once the sequence is pressed the F11 key led remains lit, and the overlay active. Pressing the F11 key restores the normal keyboard. Fn+Num Lock does not do anything.
Please check you laptop's manual to familiarize yourself with the uses of the Fn key on YOUR computer.
How to use underscore
You do not need to use an underscore character in writing. Just use the "format" option in whatever word processing software you are using and that will underscore a word/words that you select.
If you are not using word processing but are writing to a .txt file, you will be unable to do this, because formatting - including underscored characters - is not an option.
