Well not sure if this helps but I was having a heck of a time figuring out why my plugs were firing intermittent and sometimes a couple of cylinders not at all... tried cleaning carbs better that I had initially... I was told this and that, its the carb adjustments, Its the fuel delivery, Its the dyno electric ignition is bad, Its the coils one of them are bad... blah blah blah I tried everything even went as far as to install different coils and was tearing my hair out cuz nothing I was doing was fixing this terrible problem I was having with the inconsistency of the darn cylinders firing... It was weird to because they seemed to all fire more consistently when the engine hit 4,000 rpm! Well I said I got to figure this out it don't make sense so I put on my thinking cap and tried to be a pro about it by going over everything and testing it and eliminate all the possible causes right through the chain! So I thought let me follow the wires from the coils and check if it looks all solid... Well you know how the wire connectors are made on these old school bikes... right? They differ from the ones you see on the more modern bikes... the modern ones are flat that slip onto flat tabs while the older ones are round and poke into a round connector with a clear rubber boot that slips over the top... Now to get the whole reason I wrote this long intro when I could have just easily pointed out the simple solution in a one line sentence... Why you ask? To convey the weeks of agony I spent trying to figure out this peculiar problem not to mention the hundreds of dollars I spent listening to the advice of an experienced motorcycle performance expert! Anyway back to the old school round wire connectors! So I followed the wires from the coils back and just happened to squeeze the rubber boot of where the black ground connected from the coils and it fell out! Well it turns out the the ground was pushed into the rubber boot but not seated into the connector so it being pushed into the boot means it kinda touched the connector and kinda not! So basically it would connect and disconnect at different times because it was into the rubber boot but not fully seated! Get it? I was like OMFG are you kidding me? I snapped it together and it purred like a kitten... I am fuming mad just writing this answer reliving that whole experience! Well I hope someone somewhere learns something from this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK :)
