I have a 2000 Honda rebel and the engine will not turn over. I stored it over the winter but I put new gas in it and I have rode it twice already this year. I has sat a couple of weeks and now the engine wont turn over and after a few tries the battery will spark. I'm not thinking the battery is bad because all the lights and everything else seems fine. I thinking there is a short somewhere. I also cleaned the battery.

The first thing you want to do is check the oil. Drain and refill. If you see metal filings you have a problem if you don't you have just caught up on maintenance you had to do anyway.
If this model has a radiator check for coolant. I doubt it seized while sitting there but you will want to know. Make sure the level is up to where it's called out in the service manual.
Can you manually kick the engine over with the kick starter. If not take the spark plug/plugs out and try rotating the engine by rolling it back and forth while in gear. If it's seized up it will just skid the rear time. Replace the plugs and try to start again if engine turns. You've pretty much isolated the starter.
If this is an electric start only model (No Kick Starter) you should be able to push start its and charge the battery while running.
Check the connections to the starter and retry. You may have to change out the starter if it won't crank.
Best regards,
TF

Just bought a brand new 208 honda crf 250x in the fall. only rode it twice before putting it away.. put it in a heated hsowrrom all winter. it always had starting prooblems though.. i ust recently changed...

I am assuming the carb is in good order. Be sure the battery has a good charge and that the spark plug is giving a strong spark. So you have good fuel delivery and good spark, and the air cleaner should be pretty clean. The problem is usually flooding of the engine by twisting the throttle too much, too often. Each twist sends a shot of gas into the chamber. It is pretty easy to flood the engine.

I have 2000 cmx250 honda rebel. It was running well lase year but the engine can not start this year. Do you know what the problem is.

if you stored it over the winter you may have old gas in the tank and gummed up carb, flush the fuel and blow out the fuel lines, you didnt say if you have spark to the plug or not, so this would be my first step

How do I drain the gas from my honda valkyrie f6

You could pull the fuel line off the valve and let it drain into a can ... but I wouldn't.

Why are you draining it? For winterizing? If so ... do this instead. Get some fuel stabilizer at your auto parts store. Fill your tank and add the appropriate amount of stabilizer. Go for a short ride, enough to get the engine to operating temp. Start home. About 1000 feet from home, move the fuel valve to the off position. Let the engine run until it runs out of fuel. Do what ever you would do to store it for the winter.

Another step you could take is remove the spark plugs and shoot a little oil into the cylinders, replace the plugs, and with the kill switch in the OFF position, turn the engine over a couple turns. Some folks like to disconnect the battery, others connect a trickle charger to maintain the battery for the winter.

In the spring, get new plugs for your bike. It should start right up for you.

I have a carb. problem.

Mr Billy your carb float is probably stuck due to eveporated fuel varnish in the carb. You can loosen the carb then remove the carb bowl without completely disconecting everything,(sometimes just spraying carb cleaner into the open drain will free it) Be carefull not to turn adjustment screws if they were right before they are still correct.cable controls are particular about routing so be sure not to missplace them.(before you take anything apart make sure fuel is on or set to reserve, and that fuel can run to the carb from fuel tank.there may be a vacuum line to stop fuel if engine is not pulling a vacuum so u may need to give it some to get fuel flow..) Local Honda dealer or repair shop can get the manual you need.

! have a Troy built mower with a Honda engine, it quit running and will not start. I changed the spark plug, it ran for about one hour. Now the mower will not start.

Hello. If the gas has been sitting all winter, remove it with a siphoning bulb and put in brand new gas, not even gas that you have been storing all winter. Also, change your air filter. Finally get a can of starter fluid and a helper. While one person squirts a bit of starter fluid into the air intake [near the air filter] the other person starts it and use more squirts of starter fluid to keep it running. Joe

Carbs sputtering and misfireing on Shadow Spirit VT750 2005

An engine never misfires due to these things. It is always because of maladjustment of the timing at the CB points. Check the timing and set it right.

New batteries should always be charged before the first use as they loose charge lying idle in stores. All batteries do.

HONDA CBR 600 ( 2003)

Without the fairings the plugs should be pretty accessible. Get a new set of stock plugs from the dealer. Since you are already there anyway, have them show you how to install the new plugs.. Talk to them about the starting problem and get their thoughts.
