2002 honda 750 shadow ace not getting power to the starter. If I jump the starter relay it will start. And my headlight will not turn on. Normally it comes on when the key it turned on. Both problems started at the same time.

Either that or the relay that connects the positive lead to the starter is shorted. If you can get into the relay, you may be able to hold the contacts open if the switch is shorted or the contacts may have welded themselves together

SOURCE: 2002 HONDA SHADOW ACE 750 CARB

It sounds like you may have or will be jetting your carbs. I did this using the directions with the kit and used the Clyman manual for this bike to show me step by step how to remove the carborator. You will only need to attach 2 of the 4 hoses on your carb. syncronizer. If I remember right, you need to remove the bolt-on cooling fins to expose the engine block. The is a black screw or bolt that you take out and screw the threaded metal adapter of the sync tool. Be careful using the sync tool. Be very light on the throttle or the vacuum in the cylinder will **** in the mercury from the sync tool - not good. The problem you are stating on idle & backing off sometimes happens when the carbs are running rich (too much fuel) Hope that gets you in the right direction.

SOURCE: cant start honda 98 shadow ace

I've posted this in other messages -- I had a similar problem with my 1999 ACE --- the two weakest components in the ACE electrical system are 1) the starter switch 2) the starter relay

Seems the switch goes bad easily..
I would gamble that your starter switch is bad -- I would try some CRC QD Contact Cleaner and then an electrical lube like CRC-2-26 ...

Replace your right switch assembly. The starter button is a two position switch. Push it in halfway and the headlight goes out(more power to the starter). Push the button in all the way and the solenoid kicks in. The starter button is causing both problems.

No start

The starter button on a Honda does two things. When pushed in half way it turns off the headlight so there is more juice for the starter, then when pushed in the rest of the way it engages the solenoid going to the starter. It's pretty obvious that you need a right switch assembly. Or a good starter button removed from another switch assembly. Honda only sells the button as part of the complete switch assembly. Sometimes you can take a switch apart and clean the button contacts(I have done this) But you must work carefully so you dont damage or lose pieces.Sometimes the only option is to buy a different switch.Good Luck.

I have a 1998 honda shadow 750 ACE. My headlight will not work, but all other lights are fine. Please tell me how to fix this

I had a similar problem -- headlight out and bike would not start -- but it would run if you pop started it .. A little monkeying got the headlight on, but still no starter.
I am assuming you checked the fuses and they are fine..

I was told the two weak links in the ACE electrical switch and the starter relay. A little contact cleaner might fix it.

the problem more than likely lies in your start button or the ignition switch. check the start button first. it may have corroded contacts.
