Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. At the starter motor, two voltage circuits, one comes from battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the start position and is wired through neutral or clutch switch depending on the tranny.
The starter motor grounds through the engine block.
Any testing at starter motor, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. Use a test light to check for voltage.
There are various testing procedures that you can use that bypasses some systems, just to see if starter motor will crank the engine. If you try that, make sure tranny is out of gear and functional parking brake is set.

SOURCE: car alarm goes off

is the battery the right one for the remote ie; size/voltage. check for lights inside (map, reading, etc) left on causing the bat to discharge.

Under the hood there is a fuse/relay panel. Check each fuse, some are larger and rectangular as opposed to the blade fuses inside the car. You may also need to trace the negative cable from the battery and make sure its still grounded on the chassis properly. Loosen and tighten the bolt to make sure it has good contact.

I was in a wreck and now it will not start

Does it crank normally? I think your ford has a fuel cut-off switch (just for collisions) around the trunk area, maybe under carpet, or near the wheel well area, along one side, maybe. just a pushbutton switch.
That would turn the pump off.

follow the wires from the alarm itself and trace it of that is not the problem then use a test light between the battery terminal by disconnecting the negative terminal and connecting a test light to the cable and the other end to the battery itself if its out no draw but if lit there's a draw pull fuses one by one with the door switch pressed in to nit get a false reading and when you find the test light goes out that's the problem use the chart guide to find out what # it is and that's yer problem solved

Fuse keeps blowing for my tail/instrumnet lights '98 ford escort

Here is an easy start. Start unplugging things. Start with the tail lights. 1 then the other. Then unplug the instrument lights then maybe the switch itself. after that its gonna be a matter of pulling trim panels to find the culprit (dashes and kick panels are common areas for this to happen). There is also another means too. when you unplug the item in question you can use a Ohmeter and use the black to a known ground then you can start touching wires to see which one has no resistance to ground. then you will need to trace that wire which can be a pain. As you can see this can get progressively worse as time goes on, but be patient and methodical and you'll get it figured out soon enough!

Sincerely

JC

Car alarm

This is normally the alarm switch which is attached to the key barrel on the door. You will have to remove the door trim to get at it.
