Check the side stand kill switch. Broken, loose or out of adjustment it will kill the bike when put in gear. The idea is to prevent starting out with the side stand down. Check the wires and connections also.

Lurches forward when put in first gear from neutral

Your clutch is not fully engaging. Tighten your clutch cable if too loose. Bleed the system if it is hydraulic.

The engine of my 2001 honda rebel cmx250c starts in neutral but cuts off when i put it into gear. why does it keep doing that?

The bike thinks your kickstand is down. There is a switch that is activated when the kickstand is up, that switch may be broken or bent out of position. Either fix it or bypass it by twisting the two wires together or unplugging it and jumpering the connection and you should be going in a few minutes.

Hi there, 2005 honda rebel 900 mi.still new.how do i fix it? to get it to go into neutral from 1st?linkage is 1/8"free play.there is very little pull on the cluch lever to engage or to disengage.also...

Remember neutral is a 1/2 notch toward second gear. Not all the way down or a hard pull up toward second gear ....it is a light half notch between first and second. With the engine running it will almost always walk the shifter past neutral because of centrifical force from the engine.
