Honda trx450 forman won't electric shift into reverse

automatic trans right??? and for sure had manual box too. a/t or m/t??????????????
day1,new sold options.
check tranny linkage first, or shift cables.
and fluid levels.? good?, hot engine idle in park?
and fuses
and scan the PCM
but most times reverse failing is bad news.
aside from cable shifters failing.
the cables are 20 years old.
uses how many times, shifted now. gee huge.
and cables do fail for sure RUST there happens.

the service manual tells how to check the shifter
in PRNDL, to be sure it shifts into tranny selector detents properly. , even make sure Park works can car not be able to be pushed brakes off.

sorry dealer only ,i do feel you will need specialised software to reset or find the fault .

Does clutch work perfectly? Remember reverse is not syncronized so dragging clutch can make it difficult to engage. Other could be broken shift fork or internal damage.

Have you just replaced the clutch? Taken out the transaxle, and put it back in? Are you sure transmission was in good condition before this? If so, review your procedure carefully to be sure you got it all back right.
Watch the slave cylinder while someone depresses clutch. You should see the little plunger move slightly out and move the clutch lever back. The lever moves the release bearing inside bell housing into contact with the pressure plate. If slave cylinder doesn't move at all, try bleeding again. The plunger has to move when clutch is engaged.
I'm not sure what you mean by "will shift but won't go into gear". You mean it's actually going into a gear position and car won't move? Or it won't go into any gear, period. As if you had no clutch?

that delayed reaction may be the transmission slipping. with those many miles it could be the transmission going bad

reasons for no reverse 4th gears or worn and damage-reverse gears worn-4th clutch is faulty-control cable misadjusted-servo shaft stuck-1-2 shift valve faulty-electrical system is faulty.

check tranny fluid .if all good .your reverse input clutch or reverse band worn.
