Simply press your left foot on the clutch pedal, and move the stick shift to the desired gear. When doing so, please go off the gas pedal with your right foot.

Got my alternator replaced on my 1983 toyota celica shortly after it stopped switching into fourth gear

a very old car, this is.
and is an A/T right.
it stopped , implies to me an A/t not stick
so my A.T has shifting issues.
buy the FSM and read the page there on 4th gear issues and test.
or login to alldata.com and read the same page
or at mitchells.
A/T is a complex device, DIY working any A/T book free is not going to go well , at all. get the book

the real FSM has a section called on CAR A/T tests.

My 91 toyota 4x4 won't go into reverse. Is this just the plastick bushing or something else? It's like there is a wall and I can't even get to the side where reverse and 5th gear are. I have to be going...

Check the bolt that holds the back of the transmission to the cross member. It may have fallen out, allowing the transmission to shift right. If that is ok, remove the stick shift boot to see if the stick it hitting the edge of the floor board opening.

Have a 1983 Toyota 4x4 short box truck. put new thermostat in and had pressure test done but no leaks. Over heats when going up hill. What would cause this?

A clogged radiator. You can try to flush the radiator with water from a garden hose. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses and remove the radiator cap. Stick the water hose in the neck of the radiator and turn the water on about half way and let it flush for 10 o 15 minutes. Make sure when you top off the system that it is free of air pockets.

Hello, I bought a 1980 land cruiser, but it does not have the picture on how to activate the 4x4 stick, can you help me pls

First thing to do is engage your front hubs. Gold colored locking mechanism in the center of the hub with arrows reading "free" and "engage" rotate the mechanism towards the engage until it stops. do this on both front hubs. Then start and let engine idle, depress the clutch and shift the short (right) shift lever to the "High" position, then shift transmission lever into 1st gear and then you will be in 4 wheel drive.

89 toyota sr5 v6 4x4 automatic will not shift into O/D. Thebutton for O/D clicks and dash light comes on but it is not doing shifting.

still working on my identical problem with 1983 toyota truck, started not shifting into odints OD switch lite is on. Figured out thermostat sometimes is the problem as the engine isnt warming up enuff. changed (bad frozen) thermo and hose, no change.

Then figured viscious clutch was frozen. Found fan rotated a blade or two when cold, but was not freewheeling or easy. Started truck cold, and noted lot of air movement from fan which seemed more when revved up. couldnt stall fan with rolled up newspaper. after warming up for less than 5 minutes, noted change in engine speed, and much less air movement from fan. Now could stall fan with rolled up newspaper. However, fan was now easy to move by hand, and easily rotated about half way.

Now suspecting one of the solinoids, and trying to dope that out....hope this helps

82 toyota 4x4 5 speed transmission. The gear shifter will spin all the way around but still works if you line it up.

shifter can be removed with shifter boot out of the way, and pushing down and turning round collar at base of shifter to the left or right, with shift lever out it should be easy to tell weather the bottom of shift lever is worn or broken off.
