Shell Rotella 15W40 Synthetic...WalMart usually carries it @ $5.90qt.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BETTER ON THE MARKET

SOURCE: what kind of gear oil

If you have a separate transmission oil bath from your piston, crankshaft, head side of the crankcase , you can use 10w-40 JASO MA motorcycle oil. The same oil can be used in the piston side as in the transmission side of the engine. Racers will use 80 wt motorcycle transmission GEAR oil. For an edge you could use 70 wt motorcycle transmission GEAR oil. The transmission gear oil helps preserve the wet clutch and gears in high powered race bikes.

Firstly check if you have gearbox oil in it seldomly so happens that a gearbox makes a noise but when it does make a kind of winding noise the gear inside the box has gotten damaged. Sometimes when lucky if you add gearbox oil the noise goes away.

If you have a 2 stroke engine this requires SAE 80W/85W gearbox oil about .55 liters. If yours is a 4 stroker then 10W40 lubes the whole engine and gearbox. You can get a user manual online easily for this bike at owners.honda.com

I have a 06 yz250f that will not go into gear and when it does it seams that it skipping sounds like its in between gears and when it gose into gear and iam in top gear it goes and it seams to have a pause...

Sounds like a selector rod has bent in the gearbox and the damage has got progressively worse by damaging the teeth on various gears. Drain the gearbox oil into a suitable container and look for any signs of metal particles or broken gear teeth. Firstly if you are not mechanically minded or don't have a repair manual and suitable tools then this is a job for the bike shop. This can be a very expensive repair. It can be more economical to fit a known good secondhand replacement engine, best o luck.

How much oil do i put in my 2008 yz250f

1.06 quarts w/ no filter change
1.16 with new filter
1.27 if engine was torn down and is dry

The oil filter is under a cover plate just forward of the clutch and close to the top of the gearbox.
