I haven't had a motorcycle in a long time, but all the bikes I remember had the VIN on the frame, where the forks attach(the short tube on the front of the frame that holds the bearings for the front wheel to pivot left or right). This might be a little tough to see on a sport bike, but it should be visible without taking anything apart(so it is easy for the police,DMV,or an inspection station to verify).

Is there anyway of finging out about an engine by using its number the number is 2RG-002924

Engine numbers are useless. The frame number is what will identify the engine. The frame number is also called the VIN. The meaning of VIN is Vehicle Identification Number. The site below has a free VIN decoder. Please rate my answer. Thanks. http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp

Hi I need to locate the vin number on a 1997 kia sportage. I cannot locate it on the chassis

The vin number should be located on the driverside at the bottom of the windshield. Looking from the outside of the car on the driverside you should see it through the windshield. Hope this will help you.

I found this serial number tag on my harley davidson but I dont think that it makes my bike's vin. tag says: 7910R303030183 vin: 1HD1BHY101Y025637

The second part of the number past the "vin:" is probably the VIN of your bike, maybe not but it looks like a VIN number. Your VIN should be stamped into the neck of the frame. What the first number is, I have no idea.
