What weight fork oil should i use

Fork oil is the same as hydraulic pump oil. Depending on your preference choose a light weight oil, 5-15 will give a soft ride. As the weight numbers go up the comfort level goes down. However, the heavier weight oil provides better handling. A bit of experimentation will varying weights should be considered for the optimal combination of ride comfort and handling. One final note. When reassembling the forks on a motorbike the main spring and all other internal components should be in the fork tubes then add the oil, as to weight I assume you mean fork oil viscosity. Fork oil for general use is usually 5w or 10w but you need to look up the specific oil type for your bike, also the capacity is unique to each bike but you can measure the oil by pouring the required amount into the upright tubes make sure that the levels are the same, use a straightened wire coat hanger and measure the level in each fork so that any differences are reduced so as to not affect the safe handling of the motorbike as uneven forks can be very dangerous.

I generally run bel ray 10 wt. for oil. as far as the air setting it depends on the rider weight as well as the particular feel you are looking for.

I'm sorry but I don't have the specs on the quantity and type of fork oil for your year and model bike. I work on the older bikes that the dealers will no longer service. But, I can describe the difference between the "wet" and "dry" conditions of the fork assembly. If you take the front forks apart, clean them out, and put them back together with no oil in them, they are considered "dry". For a simple drain and refill type oil change on them where you don't get all the oil out of them, they are considered "wet". I hope this helps, You can call you local dealer's service department and they should tell you the quantity and viscosity of the oil that goes in the front forks on your machine. They'll tell you something like 6 ounces of "Type E" oil, for example. Harley-Davidson uses these types of specs to describe their oils. If you go to a website for fork oil, like PJ1, they may give a cross reference or equivalency chart for converting H-D "Type E" to their oil. I think that would be their 30 weight oil. If the front end seems too "stiff" with 30 weight, you can drop down to 20 weight. I think Honda makes a 25 weight but not sure. Your Harley won't mind the Honda oil. BG.

Try draining a very small amount of oil from each fork leg, there should be a small screw at the bottom of each fork leg for draining oil. See if you can let out the same amount of oil from each leg, i would start with about 30ml from each one. Make sure the front wheel is jacked up off the ground, so the oil wont come out under to much pressure.
Apart from that, yes change the oil, but put less in, that will make it softer, its not so much the oil weight, but more so how much oil you put in, less for a softer ride.

Check fork oil for leaks if no leaks change weight of oil to a higher weight,
ie. 5w to 10w fork oil

if your talking about fork oil viscosity, sae 20s is std, for heavy use try 30s or light modern gear oil. it's your preference!

there is no set amount required. different amounts of oil make different suspension set ups. check with your local dearler and see what will be best suited for yourneeds and body weight. also you need to buy the right weight of fork seal oil to get the right ride.

This is an old thread but just in case you haven't gotten the problem fixed, you need to change the fork oil in your forks. The main reason is to make sure you've got the correct amount in them.

If after changing the oil they're still too spongy, you need to change the oil to a heavier weight oil. Use 30 weight "FORK OIL". Do not use any other type of oil as it may foam. Use fork oil only and in the correct amount. Your owner's manual should tell you how much oil to add.

To drain the oil, there is a plug down near the axle on each fork slider. At the top triple trees, there is a large cap on each fork tube. Take this out and add the proper amount of the proper weight oil. Only do one tube at a time. You may have to get the weight of the bike off the front end.

hello m8,,i had one of these babys,,grab your self a medium grade oil,, if u have a litre bottle u need to put just over a quarter of that bottle in each fork,, or if u have a 500ml bottle pour half a bottle in each fork,, cheers
