yesterday my america stucked on 5th gear - cant move lever down at all, but clutch was worked fine. i pull out bike on walk patch, and after shut down engine, gears start working. i have noticed that nut on pipe with conect gear shift lever with engine was loose. i have fixed it, and then i rided 100 miles with no problem. Question - should i concern about that situation? or is possible that nut was a problem and i nothing serious?
before i have been posted about knocking noise from clutch. peoples from 3 different garages have listen this noise and all said noise is normal. But this noise is a lot lounder now ,lounder than idle engine running, usualy on warm and hot engine , when clutch is pull in. i dont have problem with clutch other than this noise (for example i done 1200 km in 2 days and then after week another 1200km in 2days with this noise without problems at all) . more miles = noiser bike?
Ry useing blue LOCTITE on the pinch bolts and other fasteners to keep the shifter from vibrating loose again. I had the shift linkage vibrate loose on my Thruxton when it was new, I had to fix it on the road to get home.

I suspect riding it home in a high gear needed lots of clutch slip - could be you have worn the clutch plates quite a lot and perhaps overheated it.
If it is a cable operated clutch, adjusting it might restore some functionality but as the gearchange is "stuck", clearly some dismantling will be needed and it would probably expose the clutch parts for inspection.
Possible shifter fork in the tranny is broken. Also inside the engine there is a little lever that pulls on a pin when shifting. That pin could be broken. Also pull in the clutch lever and try to push the bike if it moves then the clutches aren't stuck together if it doesn't move freely then its possibly a set of stuck clutch plates. That's a simple fix.
Hi Ron, I would check the clutch interface switch at the clutch lever it sounds as if it is either faulty, broken, come loose or stuck. Some bikes have loads of problems with this beastie. Pull in the clutch lever then try spraying some lube between the lever and the stock and see if you can see the switch plunger move. You might have to remove the clutch lever completely to see this if you do then you should be able to push the plunger in by finger and see it spring back out. The whole switch does in some cases come loose if you look for 2 wires going into the clutch lever stock see it the thing they go into is loose or pushed out, normally they just push back with a slight click. When you operate the clutch lever the switch plunger should move out allowing the bike to start in gear. On my Suzuki you have to operate the clutch lever to start even in neutral. Hope this helps
See if you can push the bike with it in gear and the clutch lever pulled in. If the clutch is stuck, push start the bike, jump on, get to about 10 mph, pull in the clutch lever and hit the rear brake hard. This will usually break a stuck clutch loose.
hi, if when you start your bike you press the gear lever down to go to 1st from neutral and then pull it back up to go to 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th then the only way to get back into first gear is to press the gear lever down 4 times to get it back into 1st gear their is no quicker way to do this you have to work your way back down the gears.
if your coming to a stop quick then just pull the clutch in and keep pushing the lever down until it dont push down any further it will only go down 1 gear at a time so you will need to push it down 4 times but you dont need to count you can just keep pressing it down the gears until it dont go down any more then you know this is first, you need to keep the clutch in when doing this.
how ever if your slowing down is more gradual then what you can do is go from 5th down to 4th then let engine slow the bike down then when the revs drop down change down to 3rd and so on until you get ot 1st gear.
if your coming to a stop quick say at lights or junction then if the bike is in 5th gear then you can change down the gears once the bike has stopped just hold the clutch in when you stop and keep tapping the gear lever down until you feel that its not going down any more gears this way you know its in 1st without having to cound down the gears, their id no quicker way of going down the gears to get to 1st.

The clutch lever should have some tension, so could be a problem with the hydraulic actuator stuck, or a failure of the clutch. try bleeding the clutch, or pull the clutch cover off and see if the pressure plate moves
hi,this may help,it sounds like your clutch plates are stuck together,this is quite common on bikes that have been parked up for a while,mine does it ocasionally,i fix it by getting the bike moving and crash starting it,once you have got it running and moving with the bike in the highest gear you can get it into(you can change up and down the gearbox without the clutch and not do any damage)simply pull the clutch lever in and roll on and off the throttle a couple of times and the clutch should disengage...hope this helps
this may help,it doesnt sound like the clutch is out of adjustment,it sounds like the clutch plates have become stuck together,(this happens quite a bit if the bike has been parked for a while..ie over winter)..to fix it get the bike moving,down a drive way or something..then just bang it into gear,then shift into the highest gear you can by shifting without the clutch,once you have a bit of pace on simply hold the clutch lever in and work the throttle on and off all the while holding the clutch lever in,the clutch should free itself fairly quickly and should be back to normall,a lot of older bikes are good at doing this..hope this helps
