If there is power into CDI but not out to coil then check that kill switch works, also check side-stand switch If OK & coils are earthed then get CDI repaired

Does it still have the original sparkplug cap? If so, from it's age, the resistance in the cap has increased past it's optimum performance. Replace the cap or (if possible) pull the resistor out and run it direct from the coil only if it's a points style ignition not a CDI. The resistor cap was put on all engines back in those days so it wouldn't interfer with radio and television transmission signals. Now days with CDI (capassitor discharge ignition) they need resistance on the wire or cap or both, to clean up the high voltage going to the spark plug so it don't hurt the CDI. Running a old engine with points with no resistance wont hurt a thing.
i think i can surely tell you that you need to replace your CDI.The CDI is an electronic system of your motorcycle to triger the sparkplug to burn the gasoline.but, due to it is an electronic device which composed of integrated circuit, there is a risk that this CDI will perform an unpredicted work becoz every electronic part have the risk of burning &malfunctioning when it heat.
Assuming it's a KZ550, first off, your gonna need the battery, ign module, rectifier/regulator, and ign. coils. There should be a wiring harness (5 wires or so) coming from the alt housing (on left crank end) with 2 yellows one pink(to rectifier),red/blk(ign power to cdi) & (light green is neutral light- not needed). Next, assuming there's no points, there should be a 2 or 3 wire harness (usually blue/brown) from ign triggers (on right crank end) these need to go to CDI module. Then make wires from CDI module to coils. Don't forget to ground everything to motor case. Also if it's electric start only, your gonna need the start solonoid ,too. If you want a detailed wiring diagram, let me know what color wires & how many there is on the rectifier/regulator and CDI and the motor and I can email you a diagram.
