Hi,i have a 1985 kawasaki 900 eliminator, there is a slight ticking/knocking noise in the engine,do you think this could be because of a loose cam chain?

It's a possibility but it could also be one of the valves not seating properly

Can I install a Kawasaki ZX1400 engine into my little 1985 ZL900, also with keeping stock drive shaft?

Anything is possible with enough money, and I would like to see the end product.
However consider the frame on the ZL will not be up the stress the ZX can generate, and is with its age is probably a little fatigued.
But you'll need to measure dimensions of the donor engine - where bolts are and engine mounts go. The stock drive shaft will probably not be able to be retained.

1980's kawasaki 900 ..Think w rode on one gear now has a knocking noise may Be a tranmission problem?

Generally there are only two things that will make a knocking noise in the gearbox. First is a broken tooth on a gear and second is a bad rod bearing. If the noise is there in neutral and all the other gears then a bad rod bearing is likely. If the knocking is only there when the clutch is out and the bike is in gear then a broken tooth is likely.

Repair parts will be a problem but you can try Babbitt's.
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx
