Yamaha 1900 XV 1900 A Midnight Star - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Hello ,
What is the
The bike should be in the riding position - vertical and on its wheels, but if the center stand does not alter the horizontal position very much, you can check the oil while on the stand. There is always a bit of an allowance written into the oil level.
Code 14 no start
error code 14
Faulty intake air pressure sensor hose
system; a hose is detached, causing
constant application of the
atmospheric pressure to the sensor;
or, the hose is clogged.
Intake air pressure sensor hose is detached, clogged,
kinked, or pinched.
Malfunction in ECU. 03
What is error code 12 on raider xv 1900
I assume the error code 12 is the same as a fault code. In that case you have a abnormal signal from the crankshaft position sensor, either originated from the sensor itself or failure (fractured core)in the wiring harnes or in the conections between the sensor and the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
Electrical short, No headlight, no horn, no turn signals
may have burnt a wire inside the wiring loom, use multi meter to check each wire continuity, or perhaps jump a wire from + battery to the positive horn wire.
use a fuse on the jump wire in case of short.
If this work then definate break in loom
Yamaha 1900 midnight star how do i do an oil
Drain plug on the bottom center.
Site glass left side toward the bottom of the engine.
Usually just above or just behind the kick stand.
Warm up the bike first then cut off and try to level the bike as best you can. This will allow the old oil to flow easier and drain completely.
You should probably consider changing the oil filter while your at it.
Replace drain plug and do not over tighten!
If replacing the oil filter take some of the new oil and dip a finger into it.
Wet the gasket on the oil filter and HAND TIGHT only back in place.
Do not cross thread. If it does not go on easy back off and try again.
DO NOT FORCE IT! Refill to correct level using the manual for amount needed to refill. Use site glass to fine tune.
Crank bike and allow oil to circulate. Check for leaks.
NO heavy REVVING allowed at this point. Let the oil do it's thing for a few minutes.
Check oil levels again and add more if necessary.
Do this in small increments as you do not want to overfill.
THIS IS BAD. Correct level GOOD
Dispose of old oil at any local repair shop. Grease monkey or even some parts stores will dispose of the old oil for you.
Tip: Most of the oil catch pans will not fit under the bike.
And lets face it, most of us do not have a well stocked bike shop with a lift table. I used a 2" PVC pipe with about 16-20 inches long cut in half to make a trough. Use a small board, brick what ever to raise the trough up to the oil drain port. I put the catch pan just off the front porch and let the oil flow from the bike to the catch pan with this PVC trough.
Sweeeet.... worked like a charm.
Tip 2: Clay based oil absorbent to clean up any spills. Cat litter works good too.
Good luck!

How do I adjust and balance the air flow intake
if your xv is carbureted you can ajdust that mixture by changing the jets in the carb. ir its fuel injected then you won't be able to ajdust mixture and shouldnt need too either. jetting a carb can be lengthy explanation so let me know.
I need to remove the exhaust for a 2007 yamaha stratoliner.
i think you will find that the cables you are referring to as powervalve cables (if you are talking about the xv1900 in the picture)are not powervalve cales you will find that they are for the auto decompression valve in the cylinder head,if you follow them back you will find they terminate on a lever with a tensioner you can back off the tensioner to remove them but shouldnt have to just to remove the header, hope this helps

Cam timing
In our perennial quest for HP and torque, the topic of cam timing seems to be missing from the threads thus far posted. Yet, cam timing can have a significant effect on overall engine performance and the mix between HP and torque.
Since the HM has only a single cam per cylinder, there isn’t anything we can due to vary the overlap for any given cam, but there is certainly some range of adjustability on how the overall cam timing is set by cylinder.
With the stock cams, the timing specs for both cylinders are as follows at 1 mm valve clearance
Intake
Opening 15° B.T.D.C.
Closing 65° A.B.D.C.
Exhaust
Opening 62° B.B.D.C.
Closing 19° A.T.D.C.
(Anyone have the specs of for the DP cams?)
Certainly degreeing in the cams to spec is a good starting point, but my real question is how might HP and torque be impacted by advancing or retarding cam timing?
There’s lots of information on how to degree a cam and people have been doing so since the old flat-head hot rod days, but information on how changing cam timing in and by itself affects overall performance and/or the mix between HP and torque (perhaps held as closely guarded trade secrets by the cam manufacturers +/or tuners).
Winter storage
If your brake fluid is in need of changing, do so before long-term storage. Similarly, hydraulic clutch fluid should be changed before you store your bike; both systems may suffer failure if moisture gets in.
Also make sure your coolant is fresh, as deposits can form from old fluid. For service intervals, consult your owner's manual.
