My Pan European does the same, but only lights up with the clutch pulled in. According to the ST forum there is a diode in a relay somewhere that has failed and instead of only allowing current to travel one way (that's what a diode does they say) it allows current to pass both ways. Can be changed, but doesn't do any harm only annoying but you can live with it. Might not be the same as your problem, but might point you in the direction if searching forums etc. HTH

Check that you choke slides are shutting off properly and the mechanism is operating fully .

check your battery cables for frayed wires bad connectors solder points at the terminals

i use a sae 10w40 in my 1997 model. i change it every 3000 klms. oils cheaper than a new engine.

If it has a cable there is an adjustment at the lower end where it attaches to the engine.

Have you adjusted the idle screw on it?
