1981 kz 1000 4 cylinder

Speedo probably has a running light wire going to it to iluminate it at night, the speed sensor itself is cable driven. As for the tach it is probably cable driven too and needs a running light to power it. Look inside your headlight and plug the tach/speedo wires into a ground and running light wire.. once the headlight is off follow the running light (small bulb)'s wires, those are the wires you need.

Chain noise chain keeps getting tight

If the chain keeps getting tight, it is in need of lubrication. Chances are it is time to replace it. I say this because if the chain breaks and locks up the rear wheel, suddenly you will be sliding down the road on your hands and knees while the bike slides a different direction. Your forward motion will likely be stopped by a Ford F250 coming from the opposite direction. Check the front and rear sprockets for wear. I will bet they both need to be replaced. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Most auto electricians carry HT cable and cut lengths off as required. There are bright mauve super grade cables and resistive plastic cables. If you have a healthy coil, there is not much performance difference in any of them, just the price varies.
Make certain the physical size of the cable is the correct size and be guided by the electrician or store salesman's experience. Take a cable with you when you look for new cables and have a good idea how much you need, not forgetting the new plug caps!

Gas leaks out 2 of

Your overflow pins don't get enough pressure to seal the hole. Could be the barrels, or anything preventing the pins from going all the way up. You might want to remove your carb, tear it apart
(very carefully if you do it some, not to lose anything) and give it a nice cleaning. A practical test to check if it works after reassembly, is to blow air ( mouth, not compressor) to see if the barrels go up. You will feel it. If none of the above happens, you have probably worn pin sealers. Replacement is tricky. Leave it to people with special tools. Screwdrivers are NOT friendly with bronze.

I WONNA PUT POD FILTERS ON 1981 CSR 1000 WOULD

measure the intake diameter, the pod sizes depend on the size they need to mount to.
If the bike has cv carbs, with the vacumn diaphram that opens the slides, they work better sucking on still air ie: standard box. to see if you have cv carbs twist the throttle, with the engine off and see if the carb slides open. cv carbs rely on intake vacumn to open them

Only 2 cyl. fire #2&#4.

Am I to assume your saying that no.s 2 & $ are fireing if so it would appear that the the coil that fires 1&2has given up the ghost the easiest way to check this is to simply swap the coils around that is 2&4 to fire 1&3 etc if it starts to run on 1&3 theres your solution of to the dealers purchase a new set of coils yes I said a set because you can bet if ones failed the other wont be far behind before it to fails

Have you checked the flasher? Uses an automotive type flasher. Is about 3/4 round X 3/4 high with two plug in wires. Probably under the tank or under the seat.

Have you checked the lamps? Front and rear should both use dual fliament lamps. Replace with the same number, available at automotive or motorcycle parts place.

Lower your bike? As in put it closer to the ground? Unless you are an engineer, don't mess with the geometry --- really --- you will put yourself as well as everyone you enconter on the road (including me and my family) at grave danger!!!

Get a genuine Kawasaki exhaust or GOOD NAME BRAND after market exhaust. Check at the Kawasaki shop or popular motorcycle magazine advertiser, FixYa.com advertisers or other web sites including http://www.kawasaki.com/Home/Home.aspx and/or http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com/

My friend, a motorcycle is not like a riding lawn mower. Everything on a motorcycle is designed to be a part of that motorcycle. Every system is balanced against every other system. When you start reengineering without experience or training, you are endangering yourself and others. You can also damage your engine and other systems.

When it comes to motorcycles, 'If in doubt, DONT'.

Please enjoy your classic motorcycle and the restoration project you are involved in.

Clutch Cable Snapped

Hook the cable on the case lever then route the cable to the clutch handle. Turn the adjuster lock wheel all the way to the outer end of the adjuster then turn the adjuster all the way into the lever mount. This makes the adjuster as short as possible. Line up the cut-outs in the adjuster and the lock wheel to the cut-out in the lever mount. Hook the end of the inner cable into the clutch handle. Now pull the outer casing of the cable to the end of the adjuster. If the cable end isn't long enough to slide into the end of the adjuster then put the end of the outer cable on the adjuster shaft at the lock wheel and pull the clutch lever in. Now quickly release the lever while pulling the outer cable to the end of the adjuster. Normally it will pop into place so you can set the clutch lever 1/4" end play. You may need to try it a few times until you get it.

Battery not charging

I don't of specific problems with Kawa electrics. I assume you have checked the charge voltage across the battery. Get the engine running and measure the voltage at the battery terminals. The voltage should be between 13.5 & 14.5v with engine running. If your meter shows 12v, then the battery is not receiving a charge. I once had this problem on an old Suzi GT380. The fault was caused by an earth wire missing! Make sure the regulator and rectifier are earthed. Assuming all the above is ok then the stator may be burned out. recommend the Haynes Motorcycle Electrical Manual.

Need wire diagram for the turn signal switch.

your wires are crossed/shorting somewhere, probably in the headlight. remove the light to get to all the wires. you should be able to see which colors go to which side, also look at the wires coming from the turn signals both front and rear lefts will be same color and the rights will be another color. you should be able to tell by looking inside the switch which side is which color and which one is the feed to the switch

How do i remove a 1982 kawasaki kz 1000 starter motor

Follow the specific instructions in the Factory Service Manual. Step 1 - Remove the heavy wire from the starter solenoid. Either end will suffice. Step 2 - Remove the chrome cover over the starter. Step 3 - remove the screws that hold the starter motor in place. Step 4 - Lift the starter motor out of the engine. NOTE: removing the carbs may make this step simpler. The "business" end of the starter should come out of the splined starter clutch gear. If you have trouble removing the starter from the clutch gear, you may need to remove the left side stator cover to gain access to the starter clutch and chain.
